Skiing in Southern California

We were a group of 6 friends, planning for a weekend of skiing. My dog LOVES the snow and I wanted to bring her along. Because most hotels don't allow dogs - or even if they do, it gets lonely for a dog to stay in a small room alone at the times when she has to be left behind. We decided to look into houses for rent. What a great idea that was!!! We found a pet-friendly 3-bedroom/2-bathroom house on the internet (it was listed as a "cottage"!). I don't remember what the rent for 2 nights was, but since it was 6 of us sharing, it came to MUCH less than what a hotel would have cost per person!! The "cottage" was not luxurious but it was certainly very spacious and cozy. The 1st floor had a good-size family room with a pool table, wood-burning fireplace and a stereo. 2nd floor had a kitchen, dining room with another fireplace, TV and a DVD/CD player, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The 3rd floor had the 3rd bedroom with a private bathroom. Outside was a jaccuzi - what could be better than some red wine and a hot jaccuzi after a long day of fun in the snow?

Unique Quality: I saw "cottages" that were clearly rentals - some bigger, some smaller - EVERYWHERE!!! I guess a lot of people own houses there and they rent them out when not using them themselves. Everything one might need - towels and blankets, pillows and sheets, pots and pans, plates and cups, knives and forks, salt, pepper, candles - was there. These "cottages" get cleaned up between the guests, not every day. Just make sure to bring plenty of food, drinks and music with you - and you are all set! (Oh, we did have to buy our own wood for the fireplace. Supermarket was only about a 7-min drive from the "cottage", so anything we didn't plan ahead for was easy to get.)
