    Holiday In Bishop

    by

The Holiday Inn Express Bishop is a great place to stay when sightseeing, fishing, hiking, or touring the Eastern High Sierra. Bishop, being the half way stop between Los Angeles, California and Reno, Nevada, makes one want to sit down and stay awhile. So, drive on into a hotel , in my case the Holiday Inn Express, which was rewarding in the fact that I got to experience the many sights of the Bishop area. There are restaurants in town and for me Erick Schat’s Bakkerÿ is the stop for lunch. Close at hand to Lone Pine, Mammoth, and the many lakes in the region, Bishop is an ideal stopover or even a get-a-way.

Unique Quality: If you have been fishing, the Holiday Inn Express Bishop has two fish cleaning sinks and a freezer for your convenience. This can be a filled motel during the fishing season. The rooms are comfortable and the front desk staff are friendly and have great advice regarding the area.

Directions: Center of Bishop on Hwy 395,next to the City Park.

    Holiday Inn Express

The Holiday Inn Express is perhaps the finest accommodation in Bishop and that says more about the town than the hotel. The prices are high here and amenities are low. But Bishop makes its revenue from tourists passing through, mostly in the summer, and the cost of lodging reflects it.

The hotel was a garden variety Holiday Inn with standard rooms you'd find anywhere. There is a pool and sauna, although I didn't use either so I can't comment further. The hotel has no elevator, so staying on the second floor can be a bit of an inconvenience if you have a lot of gear with you. There is a free breakfast in the morning but no restaurant. Bishop is a small town of several blocks and there are plenty of restaurants nearby, so this really isn't a problem.

Directions: Right off 395 on the east side of the street.
