Travel Tips for Bodega Bay

The Coastline

by Callavetta

Be sure to take a drive along the Coast. There are several California State Beaches where visitors can stop and visit, walk the beach, climb on the cliffs, search for seashells, and watch the birds and animal life.

This is Goat Rock Beach. On one side of the HUGE Goat Rock is a smooth sandy beach and the Russian River runs into the sea. On the other side, interesting rock formations and an arch are just off shore.

The Rugged Beauty of Bodega Bay

"The Mist Descended"

Note: OOPS--For some reason, the number of photos contained within these pages has been grossly exaggerated...

It was about 5:30 pm and as we traveled the road which snaked along the heights of Bodega Bay, a heavy mist appeared. It gradually began to fall upon the immense boulders and rugged shoreline.

We pulled off the road and carefully descended the narrow trail to Schoolhouse Beach. As I snapped pictures, the fog slowly covered the jutting rocks, dropping a gauzy curtain over the shoreline. It grew chilly.

The waves crashed and churned. Although a few people remained in small pockets along the beach...it seemed isolated, yet beautiful!

(Please take a peek at my Travelogue--for more photos of the beach)

"Sunny day in Winter"

Bodega Bay is approximately 25 miles from my home in Santa Rosa, CA or 60 miles north of San Francisco, CA. It is a beautiful drive through the Russian River area and along the coast. I love the drive, but I also love to eat lunch at the Sandpiper Restaurant there. They make a crab/shrimp sandwich to die for.

"Bodega Bay"

This small fishing town has a beautiful bay and nice parks. It's located on a relatively unspoiled stretch of the North Coast. So it's an excellent point of reference for that area.

Unfortunately, there are few places to stay here, and most are very pricey. So I stayed in nearby Petaluma.

"Bodega Bay Marina"

This is a favorite place for boating, fishing, and other water sports.
