Relaxing Respite at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa
We stayed in a $459 a night fireplace Suite with large bathroom two T.V. sets and balcony, we were on the second floor with high vaulted ceilings. Room was very nice. The staff was very friendly and overall great service. If you stay you must check out the spa pools, absolutely wonderful. We ate at Sante's and the food is very good, service a bit slow and very expensive, save your money and treat yourself. The coffee at Sante's is real good. Room service was also good. The first night they forgot turn down service, we didn't say anything and the next night they did turn down, but I had to ask housekeeping to come up the second day to clean the room and had to ask twice for extra pillows and towels which we got. The ice machine in our building was not working the whole stay, and we complained once, but we asked them to deliver ice and they graciously did so. When we got breakfast room service one of the coffee cups had dried egg yolk in it, we called and they apologized and promptly replaced the cup with a clean one. These were minor problems that were fixed. Because of the aforementioned minor things going wrong we didn't give it an excellent, but an above average. We will definitely stay again. The grounds are very pretty, and they have free coffee and tea in the lobby. We didn't use the main large pool , but will the next time.
We will recommend this hotel to our friends.
Save Your Money!
This is supposed to be a five star luxury hotel but it is more like a 3 star hotel. I was shocked at the hotel's standards. My friends and I booked the "Girls Getaway Package" which includes massages, lunch & the room. I've stayed in a few luxury hotels and this is not what I have experienced at all. The service was poor, the restaraunt was average, and the room looked more like a Hilton hotel room. Our room was sort of dirty, and housekeeping didn't bother coming by in the evening for a tidying or a turndown service (for $500 a night we definitely expected that at the least). We were extremely disappointed and felt we wasted our money. The spa was nice and our massages were excellent however the spa locker room is falling apart. The bathrooms are disgusting!!!
Lovely and elegant resort, outstanding staff
My wife and I spent three nights here with another couple, and we came away impressed by this lovely resort.
The resort itself is somewhat sprawling, with very handsome and nicely done buildings and very pretty grounds. You do feel like you're in a somewhat secluded and special place walking the grounds, which seem to be three quarters manicured, and one quarter natural beauty.
We stayed in a junior suite, which was just beautiful. Our room had handsome and elegant fixtures, a stunning bathroom, terrific bed, and a small balcony. Everything about the room was top notch.
Our favorite part of the resort was the spa and the adjoining pool area. The resort actually has two pool areas - one that's for everyone, and one that's for adults near the spa area. The adult pool area has three separate pools - all filled with natural mineral water and all having different temperatures. The spa itself is very, very nice. We had several treatments while we were there, and we loved them all. The spa also maintains a "bathing ritual" area, where you're led through a seven-step bathing process before every spa treatment. It's pretty idyllic and incredibly relaxing.
The staff was terrific - everyone seemed to go out of their way to be welcoming without being intrusive, and it was noticable.
The location was pretty central to Sonoma and Napa - roughly a 20-30 minute drive to the areas of Napa you'd likely want to see, and 10-20 to the Sonoma areas. The immediate surrounding area isn't very nice at all, which makes the arrival at the Fairmont that much nicer.
Only drawback to this place? It is pricey, and not what I'd call a great value. 50 minute treatments at the spa run $119. Food is very expensive. And the rooms are not cheap. We afforded it because of a package we got through our travel agent, but had we not, we would have sampled less of everything.
All in all - this is a terrific resort in the heart of wine country - and if you can afford it, definitely worth the stop.
Noisy Inn & Spa but overall nice
Spent 3 nights with my boyfriend in early august. positives: good location for sonoma, helpful concierge/staff, nice room, lovely main lodge area, great breakfast at the Big 3 diner (do order the lemon pancakes). Unfortunately, the negatives: We were awoken quite early in the morning by men mowing and cutting hedges for hours. Friday night there was a wedding in the conference center (across from our room) and we could here the music and DJ all night long even with windows closed. The inn is located on the corner of Hwy 12 & Boyes with lots of traffic, trucks, noise constantly. We stayed in a building across from the main inn. Maybe main inn is quieter? You can't sit outside by the spa pools or quiet area without hearing cars and horns. Spa is awkward layout - locker rooms are upstairs and you have to walk down a hallway outside and then down stairs to get to the spa service area and bathing ritual, where bathing suits are required. From the bathing area in order to prepare for your treatment you either have to trek back up to the locker room, change, then back down to the spa area or go into a small bathroom and carry your wet bathing suit around. Shouldn't have to deal with that for the prices they charge.
