any suggestions for traveling to OC for weekend w/ a toddler (one year old). How about Knott's or Disneyland?
Definitely not Disneyland for a one year old...talk about overloading the senses!
Knotts has a nice little area for kiddies, including a great morning petting zoo...but I think two-and-a-half years at the minimum.
Boysenberry Jam (of Knott's Berry Farm)
Buena Park is the home of the boysenberry. It was created by combining blackberry, red raspberry and loganberry. Walter Knott, namesake of the berry farm, and Rudolph Boysen are the credited inventors. Why Boysen took all the credit namewise for the fruity idea- this I have yet to uncover! Well, I guess it was enough that Berry got the whole farm!
Across the street from Knott's Berry Farm is the Independence Hall where you can travel back in time and see the whole reenactment of the signing of the Decoration of Independence.
The building is an exact replica of the real independence Hall which is located in Pennsylvania.
I was anxious to try Montezooma's Revenge (they spelled it, folks, I didn't). I thought it was going to be an elabourate roller coaster, but that illusion was given by the construction of a new roller coaster, the Jaguar (opening that summer), which is intertwined with the Montezooma's Revenge. This ride consists of being catapulted at 67 m.p.h. (108 km./hr.) through a 76-foot (24 m.) loop on top of a steep incline, going backwards through the loop to another steep incline. The Montezooma's Revenge ride is a carbon copy of something we used to have at King's Dominion called the King Kobra (which was taken down to make way for the more exciting Anaconda). It was built by the same company and introduced into the park at the same period of time (late 1970's).
Knott's Berry Farm started out as a roadside fruit stand. It eventually evolved into a petting zoo, and finally into the largest independently owned amusement park in the country. There are 4 main sections of the park that contain rides:
Ghost Town: Patterned after an 1880's California boom town. It looks like something from the set of a Western movie.
Fiesta Village: A tribute to Spanish California.
Boardwalk: Patterned after the Southern California beach scene, it looks like the midway of the average fun fair.
Camp Snoopy: Just for the young guests, Camp Snoopy is situated in a High Sierra themed area.
