More about Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort

Wonderful place - great value

by TripAdvisor Member RookSmith

My wife recently drove up to Calistoga for a nice 3-day weekend to relax and enjoy some hot summer weather. We've been to Calistoga before and were surprised at what a nice value the Roman Spa Hot Springs Report was

Although the exterior walkways leading to the rooms were definitely from the 60's-70's era, they were functional and sort of retro - I actually like them when the weather is hot, because you can sort of hang out outside your room.

The walkways and garden around the grounds were nicely landscaped, but a bit too crowded. But they were so lush that I felt like I was in a tropical place.

The pool and hot tub were first rate, very comparable to what you would see in a 3 star business hotel such as the Courtyard Mariott . The temprature of the pool was heated to about 99-100 degrees - warm enough to really be comfortable without getting you too hot. The pool was packed with people. - Its definitely the draw - along with the spa masssage and mud batch, which we didnt use.

They also had an indoor pool and sauna that was a big quieter, and a nice place to go to get out of the sun.The Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort really is more of a resort than a motel as the other review claimed.

The beds were clean and comfortable, and best of all the place was somewhat quiet at night. Maybe we got lucky - I dont know. Ive stayed in similar places, and what I've learned is always go for the upper floor units if you are a light sleeper - and never facing the street, if you are a light sleeper -

Of course the rooms are motel rooms on the inside, but its not the Motel 6 - This is a place where you want to spend the afternoon hanging out by the pool.

Its also a one block walk to the center of town, so you dont need to drive to go to a good restaurant. Thats a comfort if you like having a few glasses of the local wine with dinner.

Great value for Calistoga, which is a cute but pricey town, worth the time to visit. Stay a few days and wander around the town . Its not the farm town that it once was, its more of a resort town with a western style.

A perfect place to relax

Over the years we have enjoyed our many trips at The Roman Spa. We have never been disappointed. The rooms are immaculate, and the well kept grounds with beautiful flowers contribute t o the serene atmosphere. A perfect place to relax and unwind, plus an outstanding value.

Such a great vacation

My husband and I just returned from our mini vacation in Calistoga. We usually stay in Roman Spa finding this place lovable and enjoyable. We are impressed with a large clean room, nice and clean kitchen with the big refrigerator. The sitting areas around the room are immaculate. We enjoyed BBQ area and very clean pool and hot tub. The staff was nice and responsive. The hotel is very close to the town where one can find wonderful restaurants and shops. Roman Spa is a fantastic place and I recommend anyone who wants comfort, relax and a good value to stay here.

You can do better!

The Roman Spa is a cheap motel masquerading as an expensive hotel. For $180 we got a room with a king-size bed. For that price we had certain expectations. One was that there would be shampoo, conditioner, lotion etc. The first night there was nothing other than 2 bars of soap. The second night there was a little bottle of shampoo. We also thought there might be an ironing board and iron in the room. Unfortunately, when we called to request one, we were told that they were out of irons and ironing boards! Since we had a weddding to attend and a suitcase of wrinkled clothing, this was a bit of a problem.

The first night we were there, I wondered if they had changed the sheets from the previous guests. I pulled back the covers and removed eight hairs from the sheets. The bedspread, which was a light color was visibly dirty and there were burn holes in the blanket. The rooms have air conditioning, but it is the noisy window units you usually see in motels.

My biggest complaint about the Roman Spa was the general noise level. We could clearly hear the people above us and we had trouble sleeping because of the noise outside. The hotel had many tables set up in courtyards right outside of the hotel rooms. The result was that we had people laughing and drinking outside our window until well after midnight. After staying here for two nights, I was exhausted.

Gorgeous property

This was our 7th visit to the Roman Spa. As usual, we had a great stay. The garden areas at the Roman Spa are beautifully maintained and lush. We discovered the koi pond this year. We enjoyed soaking in the naturally heated pools after a day of wine tasting. The rooms are very nicely decorated and are spotless. Everyone that works here is very friendly. We'll be back!!

Weekend Getaway with the Girls

We thoroughly loved our stay at the Roman Spa Resort. It was late September, the perfect time of year to go. Everything, shopping and wine tasting is close by. We slept 3 to a room and were very comfortable. The swimming pools at the Roman Spa were wonderful too. We will definitely return!

Get Away for Relaxation

by TripAdvisor Member podunkjeanie

This motel has lush, beautiful grounds that are well maintained. It gives the feeling of a tropical get away. There are 3 geothermal pools on site and a spa available just across the parking lot where one can indulge in mud baths, mineral baths, and massages. They have a wonderful picnic or barbecue site for group get togethers with gas barbecues close to the pool areas. The rooms are very clean with table and chairs and a desk with chair. They even have an inroom refridgerator. A great place for a relaxing get away. (Children under 4 are not allowed in the pool area.)

Loved the Roman Spa in Calistoga

by TripAdvisor Member Nilsen83

We stayed at the Roman Spa on October 6th. It was a very nice change from your chain hotels. The room was nice, the location great , lots of pools and spas but what we like the best were the little touches. The grounds were beautiful with lots of flowers, fountains, benches or tables and chairs just to sit and relax. There is a BBQ area and table and refrigerators in the rooms. They mentioned they had complimentary coffee in the morning but they had several stations thoughout the grounds. They had an umbrellas for you to help yourself to, in case you left yours at home. The staff was all smiles, check in and out was quick. Easy to find and lots to do within walking distance. Our kind of place!

soaked a lot

by TripAdvisor Member soak-alot

Such therapy for body and mind! My wife and I have enjoyed the mineral waters in the 3 different pools for over 10 years. This recent trip was no exception. We soaked a lot! We relaxed both body and mind each morning, afternoon and evening for the two days we were there. We should have stayed a whole week!

Very Relaxing

by TripAdvisor Member GrandmaisTraveling

We enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, the grills, and the wonderful outside area for eating. The pools are wonderful and having a kitchen helps to save on meals. Our stay was great.
