Best Western Stevenson Manor - Calistoga

My husband and I spent two weeknights at the Best Western Stevenson Manor in September 2006. The rate at the time was $134 per night for a King. We signed up for the hot air balloon ride with Calistoga Balloons which cost us an additional $371.

The room was very clean. The mattress was average, not totally comfortable, but not uncomfortable. The pillows were average as well. The linens were standard 180 threadcount with only one flat sheet between the blanket and not one between the blanket and spread.

The bathroom was spacious and well-lit.The towels were very rough feeling. Instead of spending the money on getting the dobby border towels with a ten yarn, they should have went for the plain border towel and a finer gauge yarn. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion (lavendar-scented) were provided along with shower cap, mending kit, cosmetic puffs and swabs. There was a wall-mounted blow dryer.

Room amenities included microwave, refrigerator, ironing board, and iron. Coffee service included bags of coffee beans, coffee maker, and a bean grinder. Free wireless internet service was available. We found the hotel connection to be down a couple of times per day.

Continental breakfast was in the lobby at 7AM. Typical fare included coffee, a couple of juices, bagels, muffins, and pastries.

The pool was very warm and perfect for night swimming. The water temperature was 92 degrees around 10PM when the air temperature was about 62. A sauna, steamroom, and whirlpool were all located in the pool area. We found all to be very clean.

The Stevenson Manor is located just north of downtown. We walked everywhere in Calistoga during our stay. The only thing that was inconvenient is that the sidewalk on Lincoln Avenue ends before you get to the Stevenson Manor, and Lincoln Avenue is Highway 29, so walking along the road is not too safe. We used Wappo (Wapoo) Avenue and then crossed Lincoln Avenue.

Unique Quality: This is one of the newer places to stay in Calistoga. We noticed a lot of aged lodging. Since the location is just north of downtown, the view is of the hills with little obstruction.
