Undoubtedly Calistoga's Best B&B

Not your usual floral or country b&b, but rather a more sophisticated, uncluttered look. Loved everything about it - loved the 3 course breakfast, loved the innkeepers, loved the look that was more Restoration Hardware than Country Clutter, loved that the rooms had wireless internet and no tv!

Unique Quality: Hard to think there could be a better place to stay in Calistoga. Breakfast on the patio offers a great view of the mountains. Weather is perfect.

The Chanric Inn, our new second home

by TripAdvisor Member Hopalonggal

We arrived at the Chanric to be greeted like old friends by the proprietors, Ric and Channing. Genuinely warm people, they instantly made us feel absolutely welcome, but never hovered. They were able to provide knowlegeable recommendations on every type of restaurant and winery, and were quick to offer help with reservations, directions, maps, shopping tips, local lore, and what have you.

We were shown to our rooms, which were soothingly decorated in muted greens, neutrals and down (pillows, comforters), with understatedly elegant furnishings. The robes, towels and sheets were luxuriously high quality. The mattress was so sumptuous, we melted into it and never wanted to leave. We were kept well stocked with bottled water, and a delicious coffee service magically appeared outside our doorway every morning.

Our ensuite bathroom was fully stocked with Aveda amenities and was immaculate. There were even "ladies supplies" in the cabinet...yeah, I peeked.

Bags stowed in our rooms, wine in hand, we toured the property. The main floor was comfortably minimalist, with persian rugs accenting the dark hardwood floors, leather furniture, and yummy rich color throughout. There was also a library, equally tranquil, for those who preferred a bit more solitude. The dining room had smaller tables for couples, as well as a larger family-style table for the more socially minded.

The outdoor patio, complete with flowers, fountain, and grapevines, had smaller seating areas. This would've been a perfect location for breakfast in warmer weather.

A flight of stairs led to a perfectly charming, and amazingly private, pool area. Surrounded by foliage and garden beds, the pool and hot tub area was quiet and refreshing, the perfect end to a hard day of wine-tasting.

Breakfast was simply delightful. Ric is a fantastic chef, and created mouth-watering, multi-course breakfasts for us every morning. Some examples of the fare included: a meatless eggs benedict on tomato (rather than muffin - light and delicious!), a melon and papaya with lemon sabayon plate, fresh-baked berry muffins, and a summer vegetable fritata with roasted tomato sauce.

All in all, this B&B experience was just terrific. We'd move in, if we thought Ric and Channing wouldn't notice. Certainly we hope to be back over and over again, and we hope to stay longer every time.

One of the best experiences that I have had in my travels

by TripAdvisor Member Pataco

The Chanric inn is in one word, great. My wife and I went for vacation and loved the place. Channing and Rick are great. They make you feel like you are amongst friends. Everybody has a smile. They pay attention to so many details, the biscotti, the wine in the evenings. They help you plan your day in ways that meet your styles, they listen first rather than trying to sell you something predetermine from a partner of theirs. Channing recommended a hike up to table rock top the Robert Lewis Stevenson park. It was awesome.

Chan, Ric, Thanks for an unforgettable stay.

What a wonderful place - don't hesitate to stay!

by TripAdvisor Member gavster

My partner and I chose this wonderful B&B for a one night stay whilst looking around the wine valleys - if only it could have been longer!

The inn itself is nicely decorated warm tones, with stylish furniture throughout. Our cosy room had an ensuite shower room and the best bed we've ever slept in. Outside is a nice patio area with a small swimming pool (although pretty big by B&B terms) and heated spa pool (which we unfortunately never got a chance to use).

But the beauty of the Chanric Inn isn't just the stylish surroundings and location, it's the service received from the owners Ric and Channing. We felt thoroughly pampered from the point of arriving, but without being overwhelmed - Channing's advice on where to eat locally that evening was greatfully received and spot-on. It was also nice to have a tray of tea and coffee brought down outside our room in the morning before breakfast to wake up to.

Oh yes - the breakfast... well as most the other reviewers here have concurred, Ric's breakfast was amazing. By far the best breakfast I've had at any hotel I've stayed at!

Were there any negatives? Nothing significant - our room was below the main drawing room, and with wooden floors, this did mean a little bit of noise from above in the morning as people went down to breakfast. Likewise, being at the front of the building, there was some noise from the road below when large trucks drove past. That said, none of this should discourage you from staying - we'll definitely be back again the next time we're over on holiday.

A B&B in the style of a W Hotel.

A wonderful experience is in store for you if you stay here! Channing and Ric are delightful hosts that provide a warm and inviting atmospehere that includes stylishly designed furnishings (this ain't your grandma's B&B!), an amazing king-size bed (not typical at most B&Bs I researched), luxurious linens and robes, drinks of your choice that include a nice selection of wine and beer, low-key/chill-out music (played very softly) add to the relaxed and modern vibe. Also, a pool and fantastic heated whirlpool provide great relaxation at the end of your day. And the best part awaits you in the morning: the breakfast! It's superb -- a true gourmet feast. You will not be dissapointed. We can't wait to return for another relaxing stay.

The Chanric should be your choice in Calistoga!

by TripAdvisor Member shellbz

Our stay at the Chanric was exceptional. The breakfasts/brunches were out of this world excellent - truly the best we've every had.

Ric and Channing were warm and gracious hosts - their recommendations were spot on and they masterfully managed the art of being there when we needed some help and not around when we wanted some privacy to recap the prior day's events.

The rooms, grounds and sitting areas were all beautifully decorated, up-to-date, & very comfortable. The bed gets a special mention as ours was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in. (better than the Westin)

We were also pleasantly suprised at the attention to detail everywhere we looked - bottles of water and snacks in the rooms, great maps of the area, plenty of big fluffy towels, robes and, of course, wine and beer for guests to have any time. The pool and spa were nice touches too.

If we every get a chance to return to wine country, my husband and I would most definitely use The Chanric as our homebase for visits to both the Napa and Sonoma valleys.

We highly recommend it!

Lovely Modern B&B

by TripAdvisor Member localTravelers

We were here for Thanksgiving weekend, and loved it! Very crisp clean modern decor (thankfully no flowery wallpapers!).
I agree with the person who said, it is like a W Hotel.. except the breakfast was MUCH better!! was basically a designer breakfast ;) prepared for us by Ric and helped serving it (very professionally) by Channing. Would highly recommend this property. Thanx Ric for a wonderful weekend!
Susan.

Great B&B in Calistoga

by TripAdvisor Member mike612

This is a very nice place. Chan and Ric are great hosts, and this B&B is very modern and comfortable. The rooms are large, the beds are fantastic, and the house is spacious and well decorated. The breakfasts were tasty and enjoyable, giving us a chance to mingle with the other guests before starting our days of wine tasting. Our hosts were very helpful with recommendations and recommendations for wineries and restaurants. If you are bothered by noise, I suggest a room at the rear to get away from the slight traffic noise out front, but in any case this is not a show stopper. The pool and hot tub are great and well maintained, as is the rest of the property. These guys are fairly new to the business, but already better than most. I will stay here again, and recommend it without reservation.

Absolutely Fabulous!

by TripAdvisor Member Napa_Gal_VSutti

We LUV'd the Chanric! It was the perfect place to be after touring the wineries in Napa. Breakfast was amazing...lets just say it turned one non-breakfast person into a "Morning Channin, what's for breakfast?" Thank you Channin & Ric for a most enjoyable compliment to our travels in Napa! I can't think of Napa without thinking of the Inn! Thank you!

Outstanding Level of Service

by TripAdvisor Member MDW_NYC

The Chanric was so much nicer than other B&B's I have stayed at. Not at all like the "help yourself" inns. I was pleasantly surprised by such a high level of service. They were so friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. The multi-course, gourmet breakfasts were also a big treat. I felt like I was staying at the Four Season's resort! Very comfortable and sophisticated. Can't wait to visit again.
