The Cambria Pines Lodge was a wonderful place to stay, especially if you want more than just a hotel room. They offer a very nice refurbished room, and we had a 2 queen room with a patio. The patio was so nice to sit outside in the morning with coffee and talk or just read. They served a large hot and fresh breakfast, complimentary with scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit, potatoes, lots of fresh bakery items and juice and coffee. We especially enjoyed sitting out by the restaurants fireside area outside in the evening with a fireplace, and very unique benches and decor. The gardens were beautiful, and in the evening around 8pm they had nice live entertainment in the lounge. Something more than just a hotel room, it gives you more to do in the evening and they also have massages, facials if you would like one. Great Stay for a girlfriends getaway, which we did or for a couple for romance.

Cambria is a warm and friendly town that is the perfect spot for a weekend get away or a honeymoon. My wife and I spent our honeymoon there at the Cambria Pines Lodge which is beautiful and pet friendly to boot !
There are wonderful wineries and shopping in Cambria that are just perfect for any taste Dining at the Cambria Pines Restaurant in the outdoor garden area after a day at Hearst Castle and watching the elephant seals on the beach near San Simeon.

Let the Buyer beware!!!!

Cambria is a great place but the Cambria Pines Lodge has some MAJOR problems. Let the buyer BEWARE!!!
The rooms are acceptable but the suites are nice (but expensive). The setting is in the hills/forest overlooking the town but is away from the town (you can hike into town but coming back is a little rough). The pool and spa is a rundown joke but the free breakfast is nice. The grounds are also nice.
The major problem is that the Lodge caters to large weddings and private parties on the weekend and allows those partiers to run the lodge.
DO NOT EXPECT TO Sleep on the weekend at the lodge. The very loud music carries to each room and the management allows the partiers to disrupt the other customers. This has happened the last two times I have visited and I will NEVER come back again. Last week the partiers went to 3:30 in the MORNING. The management did very little to stop the people and when we complained just ignored our requests. They did comp the room the next day but that did not help me the next day when I had a long drive to Los Angeles.
I can NOT recommend this place to anyone.
Excellent!

An absolutely fantastic place to stay! Previoujs reviews at this site caused us some concern, but all proved to be unfounded. Our room-a queen suite-was scrupulously clean with a view of the gardens that was awesome! Every single staff member that I came into contact with seemed genuinely interested in makng certain that we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. I'd definitely recommend the lounge. There's something about sitting in front of a fireplace, listening to live music, and sipping fifteen-year-old Scotch (I opted to save the selection of thirty-year-old stuff for the next visit) that just brings a perfect end to the day. Moonstone Beach is a very short drive and the village of Cambria is within walking distance. Full breakfast buffet in the morning is a nice added plus. We will definitely be returning.
Unbelievable value!!!

This hotel is very hard to beat on the amentities, food service, quality of service and comfort of the rooms.
The rooms are MASSIVE.. and clean.. The grounds of the hotel are EXCEPTIONAL and completely unutilized by most hotel guests. The hotel sports multiple gardens, recreation areas and plenty of 'trails' and walking around space.
For the price (and we got a deal package for 1 night) this place is outstanding. I believe for under $100 including meals my wife and I stayed.. and had a complimentary breakfast.. coupons towards dinner, live music and exceptional service.
Check out was a bit slow.. and the lower level rooms are not well insulated from upstairs noise. This was not a big deal as 'most' people do go to bed around midnight.. so we just rolled with the program. I could see how a 'situation' might arise if you had a noisy neighbor, but we didn't. Clearly the prices reflect this problem. If i could do it again I would get the discount on the room and board and enjoy the wonderful amentites at this hotel.. A very good place to stay on the Central Coast. I would stay here over many of the other places in Cambria.
A Big Disappointment

Stayed here with our 3 kids for 2 nights in their Jr. Suite, an upstairs unit. We knew about their paper thin walls but decided to make a reservation anyway bec. every place on Moonstone Drive was full and it seemed a pretty good deal after calling several accomodations in the area ($390.00 for 2 nights) and we know our kids are pretty well mannered and confident they would not bother neighbors. What we didn't know was they had paper thin flooring as well! I spent most of the time reminding the kids to lift their feet when they walked and this was not easy with my 3 year old. It was very stressful because we knew how the people downstairs must have been feeling but it can't be helped. You practically have to tiptoe so you don't create noise. It would probably help if we took off our house slippers but the carpet is so worn out and didn't look clean either. The bathroom smelled bad (thank goodness I had packed a sanitizer) and the shower curtain had a lot of mildew on the bottom. Shower had no nozzle and the water temperature was difficult to control. The bathroom exhaust fan gave out heat instead of only air so if you turn it on, you suffer heat and if it is off you suffer the stinky smell. We go on vacation about 6 times a year and this is the shortest duration so far but it was one vacation I couldn't wait to end. Sorry, but there was really nothing nice about this place. I thought maybe their gardens would make up for it since they had it advertised so much, but even that was not impressive.
Loved our stay here

Arrived here after finding no room at the inn anywhere on Moonstone Drive and not very impressed with what was left on a Saturday evening in Morro Bay. Do not leave it too late on a Saturday if you have not pre-booked. Thank you very much again to the kind man on the desk who saw how tired and desperate we were getting.
We ended up in an upstairs 2 bedroom suite with full breakfast for a very good price. As we were too tired to get dressed again the local pizzeria delivery service was very welcome.
We used the free Otter bus to get down to the coast and met some friendly little critters and surfers on the sea front.
Cambria has lots of interesting little shops and it is a pretty although steep walk down through the pines to it.
We explored the gardens in the afternoon and loved the little 'bed'.
We used the coupon against wine with a very delicious dinner and left the next morning after another good breakfast feeling it had been a very romantic and welcome interlude among the pines.
great stay at the pines

only stayed at pines one day as we were on our way north along the coast, wish we could have stayed longer . had a upper suite it was huge, two rooms two tvs large bath area and seperate sink area which comes in handy when all four people are trying to get dressed in the morning. Grounds were very nice, gardens and pool(indoor) were well maintained. Breakfast included, was very good, fresh and hot, service was very personable even though they had two weddings going on that sat. we were well treated and taken care of . Would highly recommend to anyone going to Hearst Castle as an excellent stop along the way.
Check your room before accepting it - our's was dingy & mildew-smelling!

Based on numerous positive TripAdvisor feedback, we booked a one-night stay during Aug. 2004. We have 1 child, 5 yrs old. We were put in the building across from the reservations desk. Do not let them do that to you. It was old, dirty, dingy and mildew around window sills. We were not happy and felt we were put there because we had a child. Listening to other patrons checking in, we realized we were paying more than others who were given nicer rooms (we found out later). We asked to be moved and was first given another room in the same building --it was just as bad. We finally moved to a newer building. It was newer and a bit nicer, but an average room - NOT the calibre I expected based on all the positive reviews. Cambria and Moonstone itself were lovely, as always.
