I love Carlsbad Inn
Carlsbad Inn is so peaceful and quaint. It is very close to the beach and to downtown Carlsbad. You can walk to everything (including the train and supermarket) or stay on the property for a relaxing time. Loved it!

Timeshare trade to a 1-bedroom unit. Carlsbad Inn is OK for an older facility. Very convenient location. Pleasant staff all around. Small pool, small hot tub. Plenty of kids. Nice interior lawn and lawn chairs. No WiFi in the units. Access to the two, slow computers in the library was in competition with teenagers. The facility is under renovation, with some warnings about construction noise, but we weren't bothered. HVAC was out of commission throughout the units (March 2008), so the front desk offered extra blankets and electric space heaters. The weather was moderate, so we didn't need the extra's. Parking in the underground area is $5.50 per day.
Timeshare unit was OK. The units are oriented to face north and south, and unless you get an upstairs unit, there is no view of the ocean to the west, and only the west end upper units have any direct view to the west. Ours was on the first floor.
Comfortable pillow-top bed, lots of pillows, and plenty of drawer space and hangers in the closets. Nice little patio outside facing the side street. Well equipped kitchen, but we hardly used it due to the many places to eat in the vicinity. VCR and DVD players in the living room and bedroom, with a small selection of rentals in the hotel. We appreciated the daily voicemail messages about activities. The bathroom is cramped, with a kiddy-sized toilet. The bathtub/shower is inconvenient, built diagonally into a corner and with a shower door--not friendly to older, arthritic users.
At the front desk, we agreed to a "one hour casual tour presentation" for the new Marbrisa Resort down near the Flower Fields, sold by the same company. Ha! Lovely model, but it turned into a serious, two-hour, double-team, full-court press sales job for Hilton Vacations, probably because we are timeshare owners elsewhere. Timeshare presentations aren't new to us, and we switched to another mental channel even before the second salesman joined the effort.
Unique Quality: This is a good jumping-off place for exploring the coast from San Diego to Long Beach. Several old missions within easy distance. Wild Animal Park, beaches, restaurants, San Diego cultural events.
This is a very lovely Inn that located right near the beach and much of the happenings in Carlsbad. Has a very lovely restaurant right next door as well with many up and along the avenue. Is equipt with meeting rooms, Gym, pool, spa, and had in the lobby there is someone to help you aquire tickets for some the San Diego's attractions. Rooms a very nicely decorated. Great place to stay and stroll along and see what Carlsbad has to offer.*
We stayed at the Inn as timeshare guests in a one bedroom apartment with full kitchen. It was very comfortable and central to everything in Carlsbad. The facilities were excellent and the staff very helpful.

Unique Quality: 'European elegance on the California coast' Overlooking a spectacular stretch of coastal land with the rolling surf of the blue Pacific Ocean and warm sandy beaches of north San Diego county. Elegant accommodations. A unique self-contained vacation village, offering all the friendly atmosphere of a legendary, old-world retreat. Activities director, health club facilities, ocean gazebo, whirlpool spas, center green courtyard, restaurants, laundry facilities underground parking.
I first stayed at this resport in the early 90's as it is part of the timeshare program. At that time, Carlsbad was a very sleepy town up the coast from San Diego, but oh have things changed. The resort is still very nice and sits on the ocean shore, but away from all the hustle and bustle of downtown Carlsbad. The Carlsbad Inn puts an entire realm of oceanfront activities at your doorstep.
Unique Quality: Local marinas can outfit you with everything you need for a day of boating or fishing. Back on land, you can play golf and tennis within six miles, work out in the resort's gym, or take a dip in the outdoor pool. For sight-seeing, Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Seaworld and Legoland are within an easy drive. Tours to Ensenada, Mexico, and J. Paul Getty Museum/Hollywood are provided from this resort location. Rates start at $139.00/night.

The Carlsbad Inn was great. This was our second time there. Nice rooms. We stayed in a time share. A lovely view. Enjoyed the hot tub and visiting with people. People at Carlsbad were helpful and friendly. We would stay there again. The weather was great even in February. Dale and Karen Boyd
Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort is the ultimate S. California Coast destination. Here's a place where you can park your car (if you even arrive in one, the Coaster Station is just a max 10 minute walk away) and enjoy the ambiance of Carlsbad Village along with the fantastic beach. If it's all just too laid back for your pace which can't be slowed down. the attractions of San Diego, etc. aren't far away and Legoland is a 10 minute drive.
Walk to your favorite restaurant and shop, chill out on "the green" at Carlsbad Inn, or checkout you complimentary beach gear setup and have a fabulous day on the beach. The staff, facilities, activities and amenities at Carlsbad Inn make this a must repeat as often as you can vacation spot.

We absolutely love Carlsbad Inn. We have stayed in both the condos and the hotel rooms and have been equally thrilled with both. The rooms are clean, well stocked with living necessities and the staff is very helpful and knowlegeable. We love the proximity to the beach and the village. We love being able to walk to the beach in just a few minutes. There is plenty of beach to be able to take a long beach walk. If you don't care to walk in the sand we also enjoy the beach wall that provides an opportunity to walk at the beach without getting in the sand. In addition, we enjoy being able to walk to a variety of restaurants, shops, the library and even the grocery store that are right in the village. There have been many times we go for a week and only get in the car a couple of times the entire week. Carlsbad Inn is by far our favorite place to stay.
The beach near the Carlsbad Inn
Hi,
I will be visiting the US in late april and early may together with my wife and her parents. After visiting San Francisco and a trip through Arizona, Utah and Las Vegas we would like to relax for some days in a seaside resort on the Pacific.
Could anyone recommend a nice place between San Diego and LA. We like nice countryside and picturesque small towns. It needn't be too luxurious. Some kind of hideaway-resort with a garden-like atmosphere or a Bed&Breakfast.
We are planning to stay at Palm Springs as an alternative if the weather conditions will not be that good at the coast. Could you recommend any resort there as well.
Have many thanks for your help
Bernd
Palm Springs, you would love it there, go to my Palm Springs page. I believe the place we stayed was the Spa Resort and Casino, very nice with lovely pool, jacuzzi,
The short plane trip in a little prop plane is an experience too !!!
The cities of Carlsbad, Encinitas and Cardiff by the Sea are very nice in Northen San Diego. These small coastal cities all lie along the pacific coast highway and have nice restaurants and ocean breezes. I have not personally stayed at any hotels or bed and breakfasts in the area since I stay with family when I come to visit, but here are a couple suggestions, you can look into Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort, link below http://www.vacations.net/carlsbad/carlsbad_inn_beach_resort_793240.htm
or Cardiff by the Sea Lodge http://www.cardifflodge.com/
If these places are too expensive, there are many other options in these areas if you do a hotel search.
If you decide to go to this area, you can e-mail me and I may be able to provide some advice on restaurants and other things in the area. Have a great trip!
As a resident of Southern California for over 20 years (Los Angeles area, Long Beach, and all over San Diego), I would agree with the recommendations for Cardiff, Carlsbad or Encinitas if you want to be by the ocean in that area. Or the recommendation for Ojai if you truly want countryside.
