More about Carlsbad Seapointe Resort
What a joke!!! Like staying in Motel 6 with a Train in your backyard!!
Not sure why anyone would recommend this place unless you are used to Motel 6, then I guess this could be considered a step up. First there is a very loud train track right in the back of the units. The units all have plastic vertical venetian blinds which don't keep out any light or sound. The decor looks like remnants from an old Holiday Inn. The bed feels like you are sleeping on a lumpy old mattress. The front desk is staffed by a bunch of teenagers who really can't even grasp the first concept of what customer service means. They also seem to have lots of groups that rent out their party room, which means you can expect some noise until 10-11pm. Not to mention the very loud train that ran by at 12am, 3am and 4am. It was so loud that it woke up our whole family throughout the wee hours of the morning. Yes..it is right across the street from the beach but soo what. Stay at a better hotel, condo and drive to the beach there is plenty parking everywhere. Also loved being close the smoke stack with the power plant nearby. Anybody who has seen Erin Brokovic knows to stay away from that sight. Overall a terrible location and experience. Will never go back again!!!
We had a great time here
We just got back from staying a week at Seapoint Village, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We traveled with our two young children ages 2 and 5, and the two bedroom unit we rented worked out great. It is very nice to have a full kitchen, though the units did not have a washer and dryer so I had to visit the on-site laundry facility and pay to clean our clothes. The first unit we were assigned was on the first floor. It had a jacuzzi tub, and was pretty clean, though there was some gunk on the refrigerator door. After requesting a room with a better view, they were able to move us up to a 3rd floor unit that had a partially blocked ocean view, and this unit did not have the jacuzzi tub, and seemed a bit cleaner. We found the beds to be very comfortable, though I see other reviewers had problems with the beds. The furniture in the living room is very uncomfortable, though the couch does pull out to a bed which we had to use one night. We found the staff to be very helpful and accomodating. This hotel is right up the road from Carlsbad, which had some very cute restaurants and boutique shops. It is also right up the road from the flower fields - we could see them from both rooms. It was about a 25 minute drive to SeaWorld, 15 minutes to Legoland, 25 minutes to the San Diego Zoo and about 1 hour and 20 minutes to Disneyland. The beach is across a busy highway, and I didn't like having to cross that with two young kids so we drove. The beach is okay - a bit dirty for my taste, and it was too cold in April to play in the water anyway. We could barely hear the train from our room, and it wasn't a problem for us at all - the trains were about 5 cars each and went by very quickly. Parking was a bit of a pain, as it is downstairs in a garage, then the one elevator was a bit far from our room so getting from the car to the unit was a bit of a trek. The grounds were very nice - they had a great spray pad for the kids, bonfires at night, nice barbeques and nice playgrounds for the kids. We constantly saw people working on upkeeping and renovating the place (putting new carpet in a room, painting, picking up trash). We had an issue with some phone charges on our bill, as others have mentioned, but the charges were removed promptly with no argument. The concierge also sold discounted tickets to all of the local attractions which was nice.
Overall, I was very happy with our stay here. I found the positives far outweighed any negatives, and I love being able to rent a two bedrrom unit with full kitchen - there is no better way to travel with kids. The rooms were spacious and clean and fully stocked with everything we needed. The location is fantastic for what we were there for. I would definitely stay there again.
My parents have had a timeshare at this resort for the last 8 years and it is allways a BLAST to go there. You can do anything and with it right across the street from the beach it is super easy to get a tan! No but seriously if you are looking for a fun, inviting, and nice place to say this is the place. You won't be disappointed with the service you will get while staying here. Thanks to the resort for being a part of my favorite family memories!
Nice Accomodations but No View
We stayed at this resort during Labor Day weekend. The front desk staff was gracious and really helpful. The resort is located across the street from the beach and all units face the ocean. The door entrance to the units however, faces the freeway. There is no view to speak of, really. You see the highway and the sand banks but not the water. The rooms are modern, spacious and clean. Their amenities are no-frills BBQ & play area, tennis court, basketball court, tiny par course, small pool and jacuzzi -- the two are in different areas. On the website, the pool area looks fantastic -- but it is small ...just a great camera angle. Be forewarned, bring shampoo and conditioner, as they only gave us soap. We had trouble with our shower stall and maintenance quickly responded. Housekeeping, however, took forever (2 hours) to send up the bedding. The activities desk lends out surfboards and boogie boards for free and have limited and mildly interesting activities for guests. The best thing about this place is the weather, the sound of the sea and the relaxing time on the patio. Skip breakfast--typical continental.
We just returned from our stay and would absolutely recommend this place! The resort has just been renovated so all of the furnishings are brand new. We got a two bedroom, two bath unit which was very comfortable, spacious, and well decorated. The full kitchen was well equipped, and the grocery store is just a few minutes away. We have a toddler, so it was great to be so near to Lego Land and be able to come back to the hotel for lunch and his nap mid-day. The resort has a lot to do as far as activities and sports and is very family friendly.
Perfect place to relax
We were not sure what this resort was going to be like - reviews on trip.... are not very recent and some reviewers are not over impressed. However, we had a lovely 6 days there in late August. Check in staff were efficient and helpful. A concierge is on duty each day to give advice about the area and was very helpful. Our 2bed/2bath apartment was spacious well equiped clean and quiet. Minor niggles - Sliding door in bathroom difficult to manouevre, front of unit doors in kitchen peeling off and a bit tricky to open (probably why laminate peeling off!), bed linen ok but a bit tired in places, vertical blinds prone to falling apart. The beach is just across the road - some traffic but there is a pedestrian crossing. It's great that you can sign out body boards, towels, beach umbrellas and chairs, we took beach towels all the way from the UK and didn't need them! We loved the clean warm adult only pool and spa with a place to sit to look at the ocean - sunset was beautiful. The whole place is immaculately maintained - someone is always busy doing something. Barbecues are available and are cleaned each morning so they are spotless and ready for use. When our waste disposal jammed a maintenance man was there in minutes even though it was 9pm. Brilliant service. Free internet and a wide range of guest activities - we especially liked the coffee and doughnut day!! We shopped at Ralph's - good range and good quality food. Almost next door there is a fresh fish shop, fantastic though pricier than ralphs but worth it for superb flavour. If you are recommended restaurant 'Caldo Pomodoro' in Carlsbad village avoid at all costs very pricy and food only average. Barely noticed the train though our apartment was on front of resort. All in all would return like a shot if only it wasn't 5.000 miles away!
Great place for the family. We have 2 boys--9 and 5. Our main goal was the beach and Legoland. We staryed in an 1 bedroom unit. Convient to have a kitchen and more space for the kids to 'spread' out. The activities center was great. We checked out towels, beach toys, boogie boards, umbrellas and beach chairs. We even checked out the Radio Flyer red wagon to load all the stuff to the beach one day! The beach is about 1 block from the resort--across Hwy 1 and down the cliff, be prepared to walk since beach front parking is very scarce. We missed most of the evening activities since we were out and about. The fire pits were fun to make s'mores, so bring your own marshmallows, grahman crackers, chocolate , and hanger/skewers. The bad thing was that some of the beach toys(boogie boards) were in limitied supplies--usually gone as soon as the desks opens in the am. We reserved the room through the Resorttime.com website and it included 2 adult breakfast at Marie Calender's(2 mile away) for the number of days we were starying. We had great weather the 5 days we were there. Out new favorite restaurant there is Pelly's seafood market/restaurant in the Ralph's shopping center next to Starbuck's. The time share people were'nt very aggressive or annoying either!
Great Place - Despite the Fires
RCI Timeshare Exchange
After reading other reviews I wasn't sure what to expect - delighted on arrival the resort and accommodation was excellent, even down to the small vase on flowers to welcome us.
We arrived just as the fires started and into our second day the ash and dust began to fall and the pools and surrounding areas were a mess; however 2 or so days later when things began to settle it took the staff no time at all to have the areas all looking pristine again.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
Especially enjoyed the Wine and Cheese night on the Friday where we met the other guests and exchange stories about our families holidays etc.
Great Place - only one thing is that you need a car to visit supermarkets and restaurants - which for us being Scottish is a bit of a pain, however I am sure that Americans will think nothing of this.
I just got back after a week's stay at the resort. It is literally across the street from the ocean, and very close to major attractions in Southwest CA. The staff is very friendly and always there if you have a question. The rooms are decent - plenty of space for a family to sleep, relax, and eat. Shop at Ralph's for your groceries, and try the Pizza Port restaurant in downtown Carlsbad. And here is a tip to save an hour of your life: skip the resort's welcome "breakfast." It is essentially a continental breakfast of junk food (donuts, bagels, etc.) with the sales people trying to sell healing foot pads, aromatherapy, overpriced tours, etc. My suggestion: go to the beach and soak in the coastal beauty instead. And, if you have a rental car and a free day - take the Pacific Coast Highway (101 I believe) through Malibu and see some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. Anyways, for January, the resort was hardly busy, so I would definitely recommend going during that time. Nights were a little cool, but the days were plenty warm. Hope this helps!
It took me a while to find the perfect location to stay. I wanted to stay close by a friend, who lives in Carlsbad. I was expecting a nice place but was overwhelmed by how beautiful the seapointe resort actually was. They had honored my request for an ocean view, and I was so happy. Coming from the east coast, there is nothing better than watching sunsets on the pacific ocean. The location is great, not to close to population, but not that far. Restaurants are a short drive, as is lots of activities. If you just want to relax, the seapointe has lots of fun activities to do, both for kids and adults. There is pleanty of ways to relax, by a pool, in a hot tub, at the gym, or just watching a movie in a spacious suite. Full kitchens with all appliances available, both a tub and a shower stall in the bathroom, large rooms and balconys. I went there to spend time with a special friend, and the seapointe resort helped to make my visit a very special one.
