When I was researching hotels, I at first passed over the Tally Ho because of the cutesy name. But after I noticed the good reviews it received on the Net, I decided to give it a try.

It was a good choice. The pillow-top bed was ultra-comfortable, and there was an enormous flat-screen TV on the wall. The bathroom was elegant (see photo), and the bathtub was set up as a jacuzzi. There was even a TV on the bathroom wall, set on close-caption so that you could follow the dialogue over the noise of the jacuzzi. :) The $189 room rate -- the price below is per person, double occupancy -- was not out of line for a popular tourist destination like Carmel and actually very reasonable for the value we received.

In-room amenities included turndown service with chocolate mints, and the use of fluffy terrycloth robes.

We were very pleased with the Tally Ho Inn, and I would highly recommend it to others.

Unique Quality: Very warm, personal service here. When I'd made our reservations two months before, I had mentioned that we had chosen to celebrate our anniversary in Carmel because we had honeymooned there many years ago.

When we checked in, we found complimentary champagne in our room, with a handwritten note of congratulations from the staff!

Outside the rooms there are tables where you can share a drink and enjoy an ocean view, or where you can sit by the outdoor fireplace.

Coffee and newspapers are provided in the office in the morning, and there is a wine and cheese reception there in the evening. If you're there on a weekday (we weren't), breakfast is included at their sister hotel across the street. There's free parking in the small underground garage.
