Travel Tips for Claremont
Experience Village Venture!
by MsStarlite
Every year the Saturday or two before Halloween the streets of the Village are shut down to auto traffic for the day. Tons of vendors of all kinds come out to sell and share their wares. Lots of artists (many local), lots of store owners, and food vendors line the streets from early morning until about 4:00pm. There's usually a costume parade in the morning for kids and many kids leave them on throughout the day. There's also a pumpkin carving contest and a Scarecrow decorating contest which visitors can vote on at the park. Usually a group will also be at that location providing fingerprinting services for children. The Police department hands out trick or treating bags, many businesses give out samples of things. It's just a fun day, a good way to do some early holiday shopping, and to get some very unique artistic items that you won't find anywhere else.
4th July 5K
by kcbrit
Every 4th of July there is a 5K that begins the day's festivities. There is a parade and festival in the city park. very cool. The race has an uphill finish and part of it goes through the colleges.
Visit the Folk Music Center
by Dundooni
In downtown Claremont village, the Folk Music Center is the center of music, culture and rhythm. It has the greatest collection of instruments including authentic African pieces. It's a unique experience you don't get to see very often.
Nestled in the hazy Inland Empire...
by marinarena
is a place of clarity. Claremont is wonderful suburb in San Bernadino county, barely outside of LA county limits. Noted as a university town, Claremont offers an exquisite quality of life for students, residents and any visitor that arrives here.
Having riding through the area, I am especially attracted to the tree lined streets here, especially Indian Hill Blvd. I should make tips eventually for restaurants and shops here. there are many from which to choose in the Village, a popular hangout with a slightly upscale feel yet inviting for all.
BTW, don't get Claremont confused with Clairemont, also located in California (near San Diego)! One would think there would be more names to make for cities to avoid such sameness!
An East Coast Feel on the West Coast
by Dundooni
"Claremont Will ALWAYS Be MY Home!"
I grew up in Claremont, a beautiful small suburb of Los Angeles. Claremont has the most gorgeous trees, especially lining Indian Hill Boulevard, right through the center of the city. Claremont has a unique downtown village filled with family-owned businesses including restaurants, jewelers, and arts and crafts shops. Claremont is home of the Claremont Colleges, a prestigious community of five private liberal arts colleges. It adds a New England college town feel to this west coast city.
