General information
by matcrazy1
Coronado is home to about 26,000 people.
It is connected to San Diego by the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, with its distinctive curved span. Coronado is surrounded by water -- the Pacific Ocean, Glorietta and San Diego bays and is home to North Island Naval Air Station and the Naval Amphibious Base.
From LINDA (lmkluque):
The bay is called San Diego Bay. There is a new effort to call it, " The Big Bay," but so far that name hasn't really become popular. It is not called, "the Pacific Bay".
Thank you Linda!
A DRINK IN THE LOUNGE AT HOTEL DEL...
by lmkluque
While organizing your time in San Diego or Coronado, include a stop at the Palm Court just off the lobby of the Hotel Del for an afternoon cocktail, soda or coffee with delicate pastries. It is a luxurious way to relax. After 5:30 nightly there is piano entertainment and on Sudays they serve Victorian High Tea between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
The Palm Court opens to the Garden Patio. One of the duties I had while working for EF, was giving private tours of the San Diego area to prospective clients, or tour leaders.
Many times, at the end of a day showing them Seaport Village, Balboa Park, Horton Plaza and the beach in Coronado, I'd end with a tour of the museum beneath the Hotel Del, a walk on the promenade and last, a relaxing moment at the lounge off the lobby where they could look out at the courtyard or watch the activity generated in one of the worlds best hotels.
American flags on public buildings
by matcrazy1
It seems that each public building (city government, public library, school atc.), each hotel including of course famous Hotel Del Coronado has at least one big American flag - usually on the top. I liked it :-)).
In most countries I visited national flags are put in some governmental buildings, sometimes on other public buildings, sometimes for national holidays only.
More elegant dress code
by matcrazy1
I noticed that there is a little different dress code in Coronado at least inside and around Hotel del Coronado : more elegant, stylish, fashionable I could say.
Surely there are people just in jeans and T-shirt but... enlarge my picture :-).
