Tourist activities in COSTA MESA

by andyman_82

Hi I am traveling to Costa Mesa. Does anyone know how to get from
Costa Mesa to Downtown LA/HOLLYWOOD/SANTA MONICA? How far is it and how much would it cost?

I come to Costa Mesa for work and stay at the Mariott. What is the best way to get to a beach and is there any tourist attractions around Costa Mesa?

If you're going to Hollywood from Costa Mesa take the 55 Freeway North to interstate 5 North then get on the 101 into Hollywood. it'll take you about 1 hr. depending on traffic.
If you're going to Santa Monica from Costa Mesa take the 405 North to Santa Monica about 45 minutes depending on traffic.
If you want to go to the beach which would be in Newport Beach from Costa Mesa take the 55 freeway South it will take you write to the water about 15 minutes.

What about public transport?

I think there are some direct routes into LA on OC public transit. Take a look at the routes on the OCTA website (www.octa.net) for more information.

I would recommend renting a car because once you do get out to LA/Hollywood/Santa Monica area, you will just have to take more public transportation and if that's the case, then you might as well rent a car. It usually runs about $20-$50 a day depending on the size of the vehicle you want to rent. All you need to do is pay for the gas after that.

Costa Mesa itself has Newport Beach right off of Newport Blvd. If you are into the bars, there are a bunch of them right on the peninsula once you hit the beach area. Aside from that, Costa Mesa is also near Huntington Beach so if you take yourself to the end of Newport Blvd and cruise along PCH, you will drive straight through and hit Huntington Beach which is only about 12 miles away. Driving along PCH will actually take you through to several beaches along the way. Huntington Beach also has a nice little bar are called Main Street. It's just a slew of bars and restaurants all in a row.

Hope that was helpful!

Travel Tips for Costa Mesa

Theme Parks...a Southern California Staple!

by RowanGBR

Universal Studios is part theme park and part studio tour - the rides aren't as interactive as those at Disneyland, they are more like shows than themepark rides. At the moment they have a Waterworld show that is great - lots of jetski stunts and water spray - don't sit in the "splash zone" if you are wearing white!!

You can take a bus tour around the park, which takes you past Jaws, Whoville, Psycho's house, and other cinematic icons. The bus tour was great fun, and although the line to get on a bus was long, it went by pretty quickly, it was definitely worth the wait.
