Home to the Best Shopping Center in SoCal
Costa Mesa, located near the Pacific Ocean coast in Orange County, was originally grazing and farmland before residential communities began popping up in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It has grown into a fairly large city (incorporated in 1953). It is bordered by the cities of Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Irvine, and Newport Beach. The main attractions are South Coast Plaza, one of the largest and most visited shopping centers in southern California, the Orange County Peforming Arts Center, Orange Coast College, and the Orange County Fairgrounds.
The older and slightly run down shopping strip exists along Harbor Boulevard. A few blocks southeast is the terminus of the Costa Mesa Freeway (the 55) which turns into Newport Boulevard. The other main business area centers around the intersection of Sunflower and Bristol Avenues. This is where South Coast Plaza and the Performing Arts Center are located.
All in all it's another LA suburb with many residential neighborhoods, strip malls, parks, and a couple of golf courses.
