cool place to stay

I've stayed at the Curly Redwood several times over the past 10 years. It's a pretty neat older motel located on the south end of Crescent City near the marina and the pier where there is a seafood restaurant. I think the motel was built in the mid-fifties from a single redwood tree. You'll find lots of redwood detailing in the rooms -- solid doors and trim, etc... The bathrooms are kind of funky - lots of tile in colors and patterns that make you think of the 50s. Decor is plain, but clean and also from that era. The rooms I've stayed in were all large with comfortable beds. There are large windows, but they face into the motor court yard, so there is no real view. Because the motel is well built, the rooms tend to be fairly quiet. I'm not sure about the ones closer to the office which have a second floor above. There are drive-up bays that are close to the rooms so good for unloading your gear. Prices are pretty reasonable -- I think that most times, I paid around fifty dollars a night for a room with at least a king bed, sometimes 2 beds. There is wifi in the rooms. There's a diner across from the motel where you can get breakfast. The only real downsides to staying there are that there aren't any small fridges in the room, and I don't think any have microwaves either (fairly standard in most motels these days). Also, they don't allow pets in the rooms.

Unique Quality: What is unique is the history of the building of the Curly Redwood, and also the use of redwood througout. The location is really nice -- close to the harbor and also to beaches south of town - there are a couple of really nice ones just south of town.
