parking at Dana Point Harbor

by hdengler

Does anybody know of a cheaper place to park overnight than at the harbor parking ($9/day)? We are taking the ferry to Catalina for a week and want to find somewhere cheaper to park. Thanks.

I guess you must be from a small town, that sounds very cheap to me

Can you take a taxi or something to the ferry? We left our car for two days and someone attempted to break in--luckily they failed. Leaving your car for a week at the harbor parking doesn't sound too safe to me.

All of the public parking lots around Dana Point have overnight parking restrictions. Any street parking you may find also will have time limits. After a week there is a good chance you will get towed, and that will be A LOT more than $63 for 7 nights of parking. Just when you park make sure you have nothing valuable in the car, just in case it does get broken into.

Dana Point Tip

Sunset 11/11/90 - I have never seen a sunset like this, the ocean turned an unforgettable teal color with a fluorescent pink sky, when the sun finally went down the entire beach, the sky,and the water was flooded with super saturated deep orange-red color coming though the darkening clouds. Glad I had a camera but of course the photo is nowhere near the real thing.

Packing List

by janika

You have to bring a very strong sun screen with you. If not you will burn in a matter of minutes. I guarantee it. We burned so bad I couldn't pull sucks on my feet for a week. Bading suits, Big umbrella. Also bring slipers or some kind of light shoes for the beach since there are rocks. Camera. Digital or traditional 35-mm. Bring food with you. You will get hungry.

Turkey Trot!

by Cammel11

The Turkey Trot is the famous 5k/10k race held every year on Thanksgiving Day. Every year is always more fun than te last. The whole community gets involved. Many people from out of town even come to race here! If you are around Dana point in November you should give it a try!

"The Best Place on the Coast"

This little harbor town was made famous by Richard Henry Dana in his book, "Two Years before the Mast". The weather is unbelievable as the temp never varies more than 10 degrees over the course of the year. Two of the best beaches in California are Salt Creek and the Strands. On many days, from the Headlands, you can see either whales or dolphin right from the shore. And yes, at the far end of this photo is Doheney Beach from where the BEACH BOYS hailed from in days gone by.

"Dana Point"

Here is the story about Dana. She is a quiet, little sandy one, similarly sandy and quiet like her neighbor, San Clemente, but even more so. Dana is quite young, almost like a brand new baby compared to other cities of southern California. She was born only in 1989!

Here are some traits of the city:

---she is a bit unassuming in that she does not draw much attention to itself in general. Yet, she does still realize that many are attracted to her because of her stretches of beautiful coastline and luxurous accomodtaions at the highly regarded Ritz-Carlton hotel where she entertains many fortunate guests throughout the year.

---she soothes well in that she offers many lovely spas.

On Dana, there is more to tell but...

oh, I need to gather more thoughts and make more trips!
