Right on the beach!
Great location! The rooms don't have a breeze and can get hot when hot outside. That said, supposedly they've renovated since I've stayed here. Prices are much less in the off season. Sometimes the off season has summer weather...so, it's a great deal when the weather works for you!

AKA: Del Mar Motel!
When I made the first tip for the Del Mar Motel, I came across the second option; Del Mar Motel On The Beach. After exploring a bit, I realized the they are one and the same. To make it clear for you I've added this tip and a new photo of this place. To offer an added view, this photo was taken from the beach behind the Del Mar Motel On The Beach.
Unique Quality: As you can see, the beach patio of this motel is rather bare, nothing impressive nor fancy. However, this is a prefect location if your goal is to enjoy the Pacific Ocean and it's beach.
The Poseidon restaurant is next door to the Del Mar Motel and between the two buildings is a wide, beach access path. In front of this path on the beach side is the main lifeguard tower which means that your romp in the ocean is safer due to the proximity of these safety conscience men and women perched just next to your motel patio.
Also, at the eastern end of Poseidon's building is a snack shack which will rent you a boogie-board.
The downtown, "village" section of Del Mar is just a block up the hill from the motel, easy to walk this scenic route.
Did I mention that the motel offers parking?

Easy Beach Access
This motel is right on the beach and is less expensive than the posh resort down the street. However, the prices range dramatically from winter to summer rates--over one hundred dollars, $129.00 lowest winter rate and $259.00 lowest summer rate--without the ocean view. (2005 season)
Unique Quality: The unique quality is it's location. This is the only hotel/motel, in Del Mar, right on the beach if that is a must for you. It looks more like a cottage than an expensive motel and that maybe one of it's selling points. It's a bit north of all the tourist activity and the beach in this area is not so crowded. Jake's Del Mar and The Posiedon restaurants are just down the street, a block south.

I recommend staying at the Del...
I recommend staying at the Del Mar Motel. DO NOT STAY AT THE WAVE CREST RESORT. We stayed there this year 8/2000. The management was non-responsive to a major problem we had in the room we rented. Our stay there was terrible and ruined much of our vacation.
Del Mar Motel is about $150 per night for a 1 bedroom.
