Because people come to the area for outdoor activities, mostly in the spring and summer, Downieville has a fair number of hotels for a town of about 350 people in a county of only about 3,300 people. We chose this one based on various factors and enjoyed it very much. We had a nice stay here, the owners were friendly, and they provided a good breakfast in the morning.
Unique Quality: They have films to borrow and, since it is an older-style motor inn from the 40s, the rooms have kitchens (quite handy considering the almost complete lack of restaurants of any sort in the region) and the place has an attractive character. The place has a great location right in the heart of Downieville and right on the river, with rooms having doors opening onto the riverfront.
Directions: It's in the heart of Downieville right next to the Commercial Street Bridge
