More about Homewood Suites Anaheim-Main Gate Area
convienent for families
We just returned from a 3night stay at the Homewood Suites and had a very pleasant experience. They had dinner the night we checked in which was decent. We took advantage of the comp. breakfast every morning and that kept us full till lunch. The breakfast has a good variety even lucky charms for my 3 year old. There was 5 of us traveling, my husband, myself, our 3 year old, our 1 year old, and my Mom. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite and our only complaint was that the bathroom was in the bedroom so my Mom had to come into our room in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. It wasn't the end of the world, but privacy could be an issue depending on who's traveling in your party. We were on the 4th floor facing the park and could see the fireworks at night from our room. There were some palm trees in the way somewhat, but if you request a higher floor I'm sure the view would be excellent. The comp. shuttle was very convienent and stayed on schedule most of the time. One of the drivers even set up our stroller for us when we arrived at Disneyland (they keep the strollers under the bus). We were able to purchase our park passes at the front desk and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Outback Steakhouse and Red Robin share the large parking lot with Homewood Suites. We ate at Outback and the service and food was excellent. We ordered out from Red Robin and again we had excellent food and service. There is a Starbucks in the lobby of the Hotel next door, very close, walking distance. And also there is a Target across the street, which is convienent. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you want to walk to the park, it's a good mile from the entrance which isn't so bad in the morning when you're anxious the get there, but at night when you're tired from the day it's nice to have a shuttle.
Comfortable, Quiet and Convenient
Spent 4 days last week at the Homewood Suites (family trip to Disneyland) and had a great time. Rooms are very comfortable and suprisingly quiet considering that many other families (with children) were staying there as well. We were on the second floor so other than check in and check out, the slow elevator was not a problem.
Breakfast and Manager's reception was very nice plus (saved time and $$)and all staff members were accomodating and helpful.
Close to many services including a Starbucks right next door. Enjoyed a hot mocha while we waited for the free hotel shuttle to take us to D-Land. Our family was very pleased with our choice, would stay there again and will recommend it to others.
Nice Hotel - Lackluster Staff
Though this hotel has a nice setup with the traditional Homewood Suites apartment style rooms, the staff at this location leads it to be a less the expected value.
The rooms were acceptable, clean and in good working order. Public areas, pool and breakfast area were always clean and roomy. Never crowded even at peak breakfast hours. Our room (ask for 5th floor up, Disney side) had a view of the nightly fireworks right from our room which was a nice take. There is no charge for parking at this hotel, which is a nice perk given that the Marriott Suites and Crowne Plaza next door charges $10 per day for parking!
Though the hotel website states that they have free transporation to Disney, this is no longer the case. You have to take the ART (Anaheim Resort Transportation) bus for $3 PP per day. The service was efficient and ran on 20 minute intervals from 1 hour before park opening to 30 minutes past closing.
As for the staff. They were generally clueless and would send you over to the Marriott for advice on simple things such as purchasing the ART passes, Disney Passes, etc. (Even though we later found out they sold these right at our hotel...apparently too lazy to bother though.) Additionally, when our newspapers were not delivered to the 5th floor one morning we were told "scrounge around the breakfast area...you may find one." Give me a break. I stayed over 50 nights in Homewood and Hamptons last year and have to say that the managers reception and breakfast at this location were below par. They seemed to try to get by with the least possible variety and quality while still meeting the "free food" requirement.
Can I say that I would stay here again if I were to return to the area...only if the price was right. Otherwise I think I would try the Hampton Inn or Hilton just down the street. When I asked to have the GM call me two times, I never got a return call...that is till the day after I left. Ho Hum...
Overall, I do feel that the location was nice, and would have raved about this location had the staff just been more plesant. (Amy overnight was very attentive and kind.)
I have previously stayed in Homewood suites, International Drive, Orlando and was expecting a similar standard. The hotel was slightly shabby and the breakfast quality and provision of kitchen utensils not as good as Orlando.
We booked Homewood Suites in order to be able to self cater basic meals-there is an Albertsons supermarket 4 stops along Harbor boulevard where we bought a cheap pan and other basic equipment which should have been provided by the hotel. We had just spent the previous 4 nights at Staybridge suites by holiday Inn near San Francisco which had far superior self catering facilities-there is a staybridge suites near Anaheim-perhaps we should have checked out that one!
we did request a Disney facing room which we got but on the 4th floor there were trees obscuring the view of the fireworks-need to be on higher floor or not opposite the trees outside the hotel.
as previously mentioned the hotel no longer provides free transport to Disney but is served by the anaheim Resort Transport busesat $3 each.
Personally we found it an easy 20-30 minute stroll away with plenty of shade along the sidewalks
Good Clean and Nice Hotel
My family (2 adults and 3 kids - 11, 10, 5) stayed in a one-bedroom suite at Homewood Suites in early August for a few nights. Got there at 4pm and checked into a room on the 4th floor facing the DL park which allowed us to see a bit of the fireworks at night. The room was clean and nice. It has a small kitchen, microwave and full size refrigerator. We hardly used the kitchen except the refrigerator which we used often to freeze the water to take to the park.
The complimentary breakfast was more than good and convenient and saved us some money. The manager's reception (light dinner) from 5-7pm was nice too but we only had time to enjoy it once or twice. I am surprised that they serve beer (bud and bud lite) and wine during the manager's reception. If you are a beer or wine drinker, you will enjoy it.
The pool area is always clean and nice and we used it a couple times. The water temperature was just nice. The elevator is slow. We walked up to the 4th floor a few times.
It is correct that there is no more complimentary shuttle now. You have to use the ART ($3 / adult). The ART serves three big hotels (Residence Inn, Marriot and Homewood), so it can be a little slow and very crowded. Drive if you can as it costs only $10 to park at Disneyland and you have in-out privilege.
All in all, we had a pleasant stay and would consider Homewood Suites again in the future.
Nice stay at an average hotel. No compaints
This was an average hotel. My family enjoyed the stay while visiting Disneyland. It was close enough for our visit. We did not use most of the hotel's amenities. The free breakfast is nothing special. Embassy Suites has much better. The pool appeared to be nice, but we never used it.
The shuttle is only 3/per adut (10+) per day. It was a short 5 to 10 minute ride. After hours at the park, I did not want to drive or walk. So it was no problem and ran on time.
There are some pleasant restaurants in walking distance (Outback Steakhouse, Red Robin, Joe's Crabhouse, and Bellagios Italian Restaurant).
The only issue with the rooms is the bathroom located in the bedroom. But that can be worked around.
On the top two floors facing Disneyland, you can see the nightly fireworks. The top floor is a smoking floor. There's also a free business center.
2-day park hopper tickets and up are sold at the front desk. You can also buy the shuttle tickets at the front desk.
Home sweet home!!
We were on a 14 day road trip when we decided to stay at this site. It was fantastic. Clean. super staff and a suite for under 100.00 bucks to boot!! The Hilton people have hired a cracker jack staff who are informative about entertainment, food and night life. Also included in your stay is a free full breakfast and a light "managers dinner" which changes every night. The shuttle is every 20 minutes to Disneyland and the hotel is located close to about 6 very good restaurants. We have already made reservations for next year!!
Great value for money - totally recommend for families
This hotel was fantastic value for money. It was extremely clean and the personnel were so friendly you felt like you had made friends before you left. They were extremely helpful with directions and very prompt to get extra linen etc. The pool area was lovely - very clean and great for both kids and adults. But the real bonus for money was the Managers happy hour every night - this was like a full meal including beer and wine and it was FREE! Breakfast was also complimentary - so the only meal we had to pay for was a snack at lunch time. We also had 5 adults and 1 child sharing a suite, and it was plenty big enough and had everything you could have needed in the kitchen - full sized fridge and freezer, microwave, dishwasher and cupboards full of dinnerware and cutlery. The shuttle bus to disneyland came every 20 minutes and was a short ride there - only cost $3 per person. All in all this hotel was great!!!! We will definitely be staying there again.
Super hotel Great value
Nice hotel clean staff was nice and rooms were in very good shape.
Breakfast was nice, a very good value for the money. Anaheim bus to Disney made only one stop before getting to hotel.
Aside from a few inconveniences, we liked this place. The room was very clean. Breakfast was a nice perk - though more seating is needed after 8:30. Another feature we enjoyed were the 2 full closets in our room. It was nice to be able to get the luggage out of sight!
The shuttle was still free for us (as we booked thru an agency that still honored it). The shuttle was frequently over capacity. The drivers made every effort to fit everyone waiting. It was almost always 'standing-room-only'.
On the second night of our stay, one of the guests burned their microwave popcorn, causing the entire facility to evacuate. Not really the hotel's fault, but very annoying when your kids have just fallen asleep.
Also, we would really have appreciated another elevator. Often, the 6 floor stair climb was quicker than waiting for the elevator.
