Yubert's Gorman Page
I usually just drive right thru Gorman on my way to to the Bay Area or to Silicon Valley.
However, one year, I think it was 1990 or 1991, a landscape artist named Christo put up a bunch of yellow umbrellas in Gorman. So I drove up just to see that.
When I first heard about this project I thought it was a big waste of $$ and time. But I changed my mind after seeing it and wished the umbrellas would stay there forever.
I believe the umbrellas only stayed up for about a month or two. The wind blew a few umbrellas down and I think some people got injured and might have hasten the end of the umbrella project.
The umbrellas project people gave away cloth samples from the umbrella material. I still have a few squares and will scan them in when I find them.
Sample material of the umbrella was handed out for free. Christo only used the yellow material because he thought the color blended into the hillside better.
