Visit the historic Holbrooke Hotel
The Hobrooke Hotel is one of the finest architectural landmarks in Grass Valley, and is well known throughout California's Gold Country region. President Benjamin Harrison once stayed here - a long time ago - but I can't speak for the lodgings since I haven't stayed here myself. I can say, however, that it is worth your time to step in to see the saloon and restaurant area (I have had drinks here) and imagine sitting in the bar that Mark Twain once sat in. This saloon claims to be the oldest continuously operating saloon west of the Mississippi. Check out the old wood bar, brought over from Italy in 1851.
