Days Inn San Simeon: San Simeon, Only 10 miles Away
Days Inn San Simeon is actually located 10 miles south of Hearst Castle but again, there are no Hotels or Motels in the Hearst Castle State Park itself hence the nearest ones is in San Simeon.
comfortable accomodations, don't expect luxe amenities since this is just a small motel and San Simeon is just a rest stop for people going to Hearst Castle or to Big Sur or the Scenic drive to and from San Francisco or Los Angeles area or to Visit the Wineries at the Nearby Paso Robles area. The Days in hotel in San Simeon is actuablly a 2 story motel with 64 rooms and is a nice rest stop to spend a night while travelling. The nearby restaurants include Big Sur Cafe , Castle Cafe , Manta Ray and Pezzulos. For Just $ 67 a night including tax, this will be cheap but if you want cheaper rates then you can check in in the motels nearby where a room will cost about $ 55 including tax.
Unique Quality: large and comfortable rooms with climate control air conditioners but they have no mini refrigerators inside. Other ameinities include: Smoke Free Property , Free Continental Breakfast , Free High Speed Wireless Internet , Clock , Coffee Maker, Free Parking , Hairdryer , Iron and Ironing Board , Indoor Spa and Wake Up Service. the Restaurants are all withing walking distance and the attractions like the Hearst Castle and state park are just minutes away.

FogCatcher Inn: Spacious room in nearby Cambria
Kat and I stayed at the FogCatcher in nearby Cambria overnight so that we could get an early start to Hearst Castle the next morning, it's only about 6 miles to Hearst Castle and it appeared that although San Simeon has some hotels of it's own, they were mostly budget chain hotels without a lot of ambiance.
The Fog Catcher is on Moonstone Beach, there's access to a beachfront walking path right across the street. Soon after I took a photo of the beach around 5 pm, the fog did indeed roll in and stayed there until after we left the next morning.
Unique Quality: Our room at the Fog Catcher was enormous, 2 queen beds, a gas fireplace, a small kitchen with a coffee maker, microwave, and a small refrigerator along with a couple of complimentary bottles of water. There's an ironing board and iron in the room and a TV with a decent selection of channels.
The bathroom had a heat lamp, plenty of hot water, toiletries include soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. There are bathrobes and a hairdryer.
There's a very nice deluxe continental breakfast in the morning with pastries, fruit, cereal, eggs, sausages, juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, toast plus my personal favorite, do it yourself waffles (ha, ha, now Kat has seen me cook!)
The Fog Catcher has a heated pool but we didn't use it.

Cambria Shores Inn: Kurt's hotel suggestion
Great hotel if you are looking for relaxation. Staff is very friendly, rooms are clean, and you are right across from the ocean
Unique Quality: You get a continental breakfast hung on a hook right outside of your door. You can take your basket to several chairs on the lawn that looks over the ocean.

San Simeon
There are 2 rows of motels in San Simeon which are situated just off the PCH1.
When we entered San Simeon that night, it was near 9.30pm at night and most of the place was quiet, except for a bar/restaurant that was open and the people were gathered there to watch a basketball game.
I remember being so thankful that we just checked into a motel -- at that time in the night, having driven for more than 10 hours on the road from San Francisco, we were just glad to reach a town! With rooms available! :)
Anyway, I remember there was a small store that was still open and we went to get some sandwiches, chips and drinks... headed back to the motel, flipped on the TV and ate our modest suppers...
Unique Quality: The good thing about stayingin San Simeon is that it's really the closest town to the amazing Hearst Castle.
We managed to wake early, eat some breakfast rolls with jam near the pool and head over to the castle in no time!
There are many guided tours everyday and we got the first tour of the day...
