Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn
2011 North Highland Ave., Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, 90068, United States
A friendly place & great location
This place is located in the centre of the "Strip" on Sunset Boulevard. You're close to everything in Hollywood (even when walking) and the views towards LA downtown are great!
Unique Quality: I remember this hotel to be a very pleasant place to stay at. It's not too big, there is an excellent swimming pool to cool down and they used to serve a pretty good free continental breakfast.
More about Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn
I stayed in this dump 2 nights last week. It seemed like a good deal and close to major attractions. First of all, the front desk staff was rude. My daughter called at one point and they wouldn't put her through to our room because she didn't have the room number--even though she gave them our NAME! Got to the room and found it to be caked with dust on all of the fixtures. Went to make coffee--no carafe! I called down to the desk and the person (in broken English) said they didn't have one available, that I could go down the street to get some coffee. The attached coffee shop in the hotel was closed because the staff didn't show up. Went to the coffee shop for breakfast and again there was no staff there. The CUSTOMERS were taking the orders, pouring coffee, and setting their own tables. The pool was disgusting with things floating in it--reminded me of the pool in Chevy Chase's Vacation movie. People were in the hottub but they were joking that they may end up with some sort of rash. In conclusion, this was a dirty, depressing motel with dingy, gross fixtures. Can you even believe Best Western has their name attached to such a hotel? They should be embarassed. PLEASE take my advice, as well as others who have posted here, and DO NOT stay here! It should be torn down and made into a parking lot.
Firstly, let me say while this motel is definitely not a luxury hotel but you pretty much get what you pay for.The price was very reasonable since i had done a lot of research before booking, this one had the best price for the location which is really great! It really is 10 mins from walk of fame and universal studios tickets are given at a discount price for 2 days cheaper than 1 day at the studios !!
The front desk staff was actually very polite and competent and helped us with directions and booking shuttles for disneyland as well.We had no problems with the service in fact since I had read previous reviews regarding bad customer service i has happily surprised(maybe they did change their staff!)
The pool was not heated but the Spa was great and our kids made ample use of that too.The coffe shop was ok nothing to rave about but since so many restaurants are so close by it didnt matter but we had breakfast everyday which was alright(it seemed like they were renovating the coffeeshop as we saw new carpets and wallpapers done during out stay .)
The staff informed us on check in that all rooms do have wireless internet so that was a welcome addition as when we had called prior to booking they had told us they only had internet connection in the lobby.
The rooms were good sized and had microwave and mini fridges also with coffeemakers and hairdryers which was a definite plus for a family of 5.The room was nothing fancy but very clean which is the only thing my girls were concerned with(no bed bugs!!).The housekeeping staff was very prompt with requests for more towels and extra amenities .
The only problem was parking issues which was a challenge every single evening esp with a big Suv but indeed it was free so can't complain too much. Also the open walkways were little intimidating what with young girls and family but turned out not to be any issue after all thankfully.
I must say this is the most positive review on this site and I'm thankful that we didnt change our plans due to bad feedback as we really did get value for money! Our only suggestion would be to have a shuttle for local areas and if possible free continental breakfast which is important for budget travellers and pretty standard for all best westerns.
In short stick with national chains if you want to be sure of the standards you will get.
Dont stay here!
Stayed here on july 22-23. Desk man was incredibly rude to 2 sets of customers in front of me,argued loudly with them, blanked me during check in, charged 2 dollars extra `service` charge for unnamed service, room was dark, TV fuzzy and unwatchable and to cap it all my wife got a fine selection of bites al over her body from the bed!
AVOID! despiteits excellent location for the Bowl and Hollywood Blvd.
Value for Money
Booked this hotel before reading the reviews as found it on the Best Western Website and saw how reasonable it was for the location! Almost cancelled when read the reviews! But decided to give it a shot and glad we did!
We found the staff friendly and not at all like these reviews suggest. They were more than happy to give us directions to Disneyland and other destinations, as well as extra leaflets and details.
The rooms were always clean and tidy and housekeeping staff refilled toiletries and tissues daily. We did get the odd ant in the bathroom, but they were obviously aware of the problem as there was an ant poison thing by the toilet. Fridge and microwave were most useful also!
We dined in the coffee shop 3/4 mornings for breakfast and found the service and choice very good. Hotel is in an excellent location for all the major sights being only 10 minutes walk from Hollywood Blvd and Mann's Theatre. Mini Mart across the road was very good also.
Parking was interesting, particularly as we had a large hire car! Definitely needed a second person to guide you in! But who can complain as it was free! Pool was OK - although we did see a rat scuttle out from behind a large plant! But then I guess I could just as easily see one at home in the UK also!
Overall I would recommend this hotel for anyone spending a few nights in Hollywood as it's really good value for money.
HORRIBLE GET AWAY FROM HERE!!!!!!!!!
Ants and other bugs not only on the floor but EVEN INTO THE BED!!!!!! it's too dirty for the high price that we are paying (120$p/night).
also the covers of bed are very old and it seems that they never cleaned them.
The worst ever - stay here at your peril
This was booked on impulse as the hotel we were due to stay at we cancelled as we believed it was bad. This was even worse. If we had seen the reviews already posted would not have ventured near. The room was dark and hard to tell whether clean or not. The drawers had not been cleaned out and one was totally broken. The bedside cabinet drawer had receipts and leaflets from previous occupants. Opened candy was found on top of the TV unit. Several lights were not working which took two days to repair. Smoke alarm hanging off the wall. Several holes in the walls. Upon inspecting the bed lined body hair was found. All this was reported to the front desk. The cleaner finally arrived and did a few basics. It couldn't get worse we thought how wrong!! Over the next few days we were invaded by ants and bed bugs. Again this was reported and was dealt with as though it was just an everday occurence. Despite the room being sprayed the ants just continued to return. The pool well we looked and that was it as leaves floating in and didn't seem to have been cleaned for a while. Only one member of the front desk seemed to be concerned when problems reported. My wife physically went to reception to report problems as we did not trust them with taking telephone messages. On the third occasion they just said 'Ah room 206 isn't it' before she had even finished. On checkout I was presented with an invice which included a dailyutility fee of $2.00. When asked what this was for told it was a tax of some kind and he could not explain what for!!!!!!!!!! No way would we reyurn to this place even if offered free accommadtion. How Best Western can allow a property to be as bad as this is totally beyond me. I would say stay here at your peril.
Great location for Hollywood Bowl
Due to its open architecture, it is noisy. However, rooms were clean, staff were pleasant. 5 minute walk to the Bowl, and 10 minute walk to Hollywood Boulevard. No bedbugs, no complaints!
Excellent location in this vast city
LA is vast so it is therefore difficult to decide where to stay but this is perfectly located - 5 minutes walk to the 'Walk of Fame' and Chinese Theatre and even has a shop that sells everything from milk to takeaway pizza across the road! The room was nicely decorated and had a fridge and microwave and it was quiet, (although we did request a quiet room away from the road). Reception were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this value-for-money hotel.
A bed for the night, thats about it
Reception staff could have been better, everything was a chore for them.
put some laundry in the comunal washer, went back and hour later to change it over to the dryer and it was gone! reception staff very little help at all, they told ME to ask the maids if they'd seen anything.
Rooms was typical motel type room, very noisy corridors and thin walls and doors.
A bed for the night and thats about it, would NOT sytay here again even for one night.
Hotel in hollywood blvd, LA
Hi, am looking for a hotel with a range USD150 ~ USD200. Is there a nice hotel with good location where I can move around and close to tourist attraction?
I have walking difficulty and it's inconveniet to travel far from the hotel.
Is it safe to move around on my own?
Re: Hotel in hollywood blvd, LA
It is safe to move around on your own in Hollywood. As for a convenient hotel, only 2 blocks away from Hollywood Blvd., on Highland Ave, in Hollywood is the Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn. It is priced right and is located only 2 blocks from the Kodak Theatre (Movie Oscar Night), Chinese Mann Theatre (foot, hand prints of the stars of yesterday and today), Walk of fame (stars in sidewalk with names), the Hollywood/Highland Shopping Mall (shopping and dining), and the Metro Rail Station. Hollywood Bowl is only a couple of blocks away and Universal City Walk and Universal Studios Hollywood within 1 mile. Besides the Metro Rail that can take you to downtown Los Angeles, a local bus line is within 1 block. Check it out at the website: http://www.bestwesterncalifornia.com/hotels/best-western-hollywood-plaza-inn/
