Renaissance Hollywood Hotel: one of the Luxe Hotels in Hollywood
The Hollywood Rennaisance Hotel is owned by the Marriott Group and is one of the more expensive hotels in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles but the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel nearby has slightly more expensive rates. Rack Rates here is about $ 180 plus for off season rates and $ 250 and up for peak season rates.
According to their Website:

Magic Castle Hotel: When service is no. 1
We stayed at the magic castle hotel for 4 nights in September 2010.
We booked via Internet because of good reviews on Internet and the proximity to hollywood blv.
We were not disappointed!!!
The magic castle is a quite small hotel surrounding the poolarea. Since we had to switch rooms after the first night (because of some bug in their webbooking system) we got to see two types of rooms; one large and one really really large one! the larger room felt more lika a small apartment with kitchen, dining table, living room, bathroom and bedroom, whereas the smaller room didn´t have the livingroom. So both types of rooms are large (I wonder how large family rooms are...)
Service is top notch at the magiccastle. They have free snacks at the lobby where you can order in all kinds of snacks like candy, ships, popcorn, sodas, lemonade and more(Water was $4, sept 2010). They also have free rental DVDs so if you get bored one night just walk down there, get some snacks and soda, rent a movie and spend the night in your huge room....
Breakfast is ok for continental. Fresh fruits, cereal, tea, juice, coffee is served at the lobby. Pick it up and eat whereever you like.
When we asked about stamps for our postcards back to Europe they didn´t charge us one penny for it.
- Every morning you get information about "what to do" in LA.
- Every evening you get candy placed on your table and a weather forecast for the next day
- Free mini bar at lobby
- Very nice and friendly staff
- Excellent service
- Close to Hollywood Blvd.
- Large rooms with full amenities
- It felt kind of strange that sodas and snacks were free of charge while water was $4
- It not beeing closer to my hometown :)
I would strongly recommend the Magic Castles to anyone going to LA and Hollywood!

W Hollywood: The Dub does it again
I stayed in the W Hollywood one weekend last month and had a blast. Very posh rooms and modern decor, gorgeous lobby and fantastic service. Celebs were everywhere. The pool on Sunday afternoon had an amazing crowd.
It seeems like the "It" place to be in Hollywood, for now. Club Drais and the pool area that it flows into was also amazing Saturday night.

Mondrian west Hollywood: Not for us
This hotel was the place to be seen if you were a local. As for us a tourist we were told that only poor get the bus this is what we like to do when were away so i felt pretty awful to think we were poor!!! the girls wear very high heels all day every day even by the pool so my sandles were very out of place.
Virgin say this ....it’s a cutting edge boutigue hotel it’s the place to be seen no where does it say or im yet to find it that ....that you will be swompt by locals, have private parties which will close the seating area off, have to pay $1000 to reserve a table at the pool or skybar in the evening and then have a two bottle minimum order. The bottled room water cost $12 so you can only imagine the cost of the 2 bottle minimum. My glass of wine cost enough.
we would never recommend this hotel when you can stay in the opposite one with free bar service and water daily.
The mirror that was a T.V but not much else but then we had just come from THE Hotel in Vegas

Renaissance Hollywood: The Epicenter of Hollywood
The Renaissance is somewhere Id absolutely stay at again prviding I could check in in the early afternoon and enjoy the entire day. I didnt come in until about 9 or so, and didnt really get to enjoy this fabulous location. This place is THE place to stay if you are in Hollywood, as it is attached to the Hollywood and Highlands center. The rooms are of average size, but it was very cool to see the Hollywood sign out of my window. The service was awesome and the staff attentive, the only thing I would suggest to people who stay for a short period is that the valet is worth it- I tried to save a buck and nearly got lost in the maze of a parking lot under the Center.
Location, location, location- in the center of Hollywoods activities.

Grafton on Sunset: Great Grafton
Would definitely recommend this hotel. Travelled on Virgin package, and this hotel was slightly more than the 'motel' type, however, the central location meant we did not need a car and were able to use the limited public transport, taxis, and the free hotel transport to get to all major sights and scenes.
The staff were extremely helpful, despite a great cock-up by Virgin (no room booked in our name despite booking and paying for the holiday through Virgin over 8 months previously), our booking was honoured and the hotel claimed back from the tour operator. The hotel was very clean and the feng shui of the hotel made it very relaxing.
If you are thinking of booking, be aware that the hotel does offer bargain rooms (smaller and noisier than standard rooms) at cheaper rates, however, if you are just going to party on Sunset then this could be a great option.
The unique feng shui decor, and the fantastic pool. And brilliant view over LA.
Also the bar is very popular with Hollywood types and can be difficult to get into unless you are a guest of the hotel.
Right next door is the Mondrian, which apparently is also a star haven (didnt visit ourselves though).
Location to House of Blues, Rainbow Bar & Grill, etc.

Holiday Inn Express Universal: Great spot near Universal
I came in last minute during Oscar weekend, so rooms were scare- but the Holiday Inn Express came through! Located just outside of the Universal Studios gate, this hotspot was convenient to both 101 and Hollywood surface streets. My cab ride to local clubs was only about $9 each way. The service was great and it was an easy in-and-out hotel.
Location, location, location.

Ramada Inn Hollywood Near Universal Studios: Great place to stay
A very nice stay here. Walking distance to the Metro Rail & bus stops. By taking Metro rail from here, it takes about 4 minutes to the Chinese Theartre. And 10 minutes to Universal Studios. The room is very quiet. I even had a small balcony. Parking at the hotel is $9.00 a day. And you are guaranteed a spot to park
A small souvenir shop in the lobby. free continental breakfast. bar on the lower level of the hotel. hotel has internet excess, but there is a charge. You can arrange tours in the lobby

USA Hostels Hollywood: The Best Hostel in Hollywood
This place was amazing. Only for foreigners, you must provide a passport when signing in. The staff and guests alike were friendly and helpful, and there was a fun, happy atmosphere. Free pancake breakfast every morning, and cheap activities every day and night. Most of the staff have been travellers at some point themselves, so when you ask for advice, you can tell they really know what they're talking about. The rooms are clean, and you don't share your bathroom with many people. The hostel was also just off Hollywood Blvd, and about 5 minutes from the Chinese Theatre! If you stay for 4 or more nights, they have a free shuttle from the airport. I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone. It made my holiday great!
The cleanliness was definitely great, and the "central" location. Also, the free breakfast and the vast amount of activities offered.

Banana Bungalow Hostel: Hollywood's best-located cheap accommodation
I can't say exactly what it's like now - it's supposedly very modern and in a brand new location, but when I stayed at their previous location, it was a perfect hub for all of my LA adventures. I can't wait to check out their new digs - quite an improvement on the cottages I stayed at in 2000!
Check out the website (see below) - it looks amazing & SO CHEAP!

Renaissance Hollywood: What a Place!
This place is amazing! I stayed here one night and vowed to go back, which I did - the next time staying for the 3 days.
The service is spectacular - they treat you like a movie star, and even the room you book at the lowest internet rate is wonderful - Nice, modern furnisihings, well-thought-out work area, and comfy bed. And more than 8 stations on the TV.
When you close the black-out shade in the guest room, it looks like a movie screen.
As I was working at the beginning of this trip, I had room service 3 times. I can honestly say that the Renaissance Hollywood has the best Granola (yes, Granola) I've ever eaten.

THE ARGYLE: Where some of the stars stayed!
I think most of the accomodations are actually very very expensive. Even normal hotels here cost more than average, as compared to anywhere else in the world. Luckily we got coporate rates.. and even luckier.. i wasn't the one paying for it! I think the Argyle is one of the more historical hotels. John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe used to patronize it.
It's directly opposite starbucks and Carney's hotdogs. And starbucks is juz abt the only thing that doesn't cost more expensive than the one in S'pore! hehe

The Standard Hotel: The Standard Hotel
prices vary greatly, roughly from 95-250 US dollars
everything about this place is unique! you know it's cool when you see the near naked girl posing as 'art' in a glass cage, greeting you at the reception desk, but you know it's all okay when you're put at ease by the unpretentious, humorous staff. Be ready for one funky, modern place w/a great location on the Sunset Strip near all the happs and Beverly Hills not far in the other direction. They've got a great restaurant, beautiful poolside cocktail, live dj and even a hair place where you can get a buzz for 15 bucks. Who could ask for more?
