More about Shorebreak Hotel
very, very nice new hotel!
by TripAdvisor Member pepi4health
Just returned home from 3 nights, 4 days at the Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach, Ca. after winning an auction on SkyAuction.com. It is a brand new hotel having just opened in mid-May so needless to say it is spotless & very eco-friendly. The staff is wonderful and eager to assist. The location couldn't have been better; situated right across the street from the beach where PCH meets Huntington Bch. Pier. We parked underneath the hotel in the public parking & did not use the car until we left for a total of $9.00. If you use their valet parking it will cost you $24.00 a day; outrageous! They have an excellent restaurant right in the hotel called Zimzala. The rooms were very nice and stocked with food (munchies) and drinks for a price. Hotel has a surfer motif.
Best hotel location in HB

We stayed here for 4 nights in early June. Spouse had a conference in the next town over and I was on vacation. We had a great room facing the ocean and pier - a vew it seems you can never tire of. The bed was super comfortable, and the bath/toiletries are top notch. Staff was very nice, and eager to please. Minor complaint that you have to pay for parking (~$10/day) and internet access (~$10/day) in addition to the room charge if you want to use these services.
A biz center is available though, and 20 min per day of internet is free there. But when there is so much to do at the beach and in town (Main Street is a block away), internet charges can be a blessing to get you out of your room. Also, there is no pool, so you have to go to the beach to swim. Not an issue for me, but might be for some.
While here, I took some surf lessons (HB surf school) and rented bikes (Dwight's) and highly recommend both businesses. The locals and shopowners are very nice as well and there is a street market every Tuesday afternoon during the summer. I would definitely stay here again if I took another beach vacation in OC.
Closest pet friendly hotel to Huntington Dog Beach
by TripAdvisor Member CaliforniaCouple
This is a new boutique hotel that is literally across the street from the pier and 1 block from the main strip so the hotel was obviously well located, clean & new. It is a 20 minute walk to Dog Beach and has a cheaper pet fee & rates compared to the Hilton Waterfront (the only other pet friendly hotel in the area). Be forewarned that there is no pool so it isn't as family friendly as other hotels- that was actually a plus for us wanting a dog friendly weekend getaway for adults. We stayed in the Ocean Front Suite. Traffic from the PHC was fine if the windows were closed. The bed was very comfortable. The long soaking bathtub would make a basketball player happy. Valet parking was $24/day or $9/day self park (no in/out privileges). Internet access was $10/day. There was no pay-per-view options for the flat screen tv's during our stay but the hotel staff said they were still debating that service vs. xbox & movie rentals from the front desk. There is a surf board storage rack on the ground floor entrance. The main lobby & restaurant are 1 floor up accessible by stairs & elevator. There was also a $1/day donation to a surf charity added to the bill if you don't pay attention. There is a firepit area but I didn't really spend much time there. The hotel restaurant, Zimzala, was a wonderful dining experience with great food & service. As it's new, there were some issues with our stay that the hotel staff made amends for but I would like think they will iron things out with more time. That is why they only get 3 stars for now but, I suspect they will improve with more time to settle in. Biggest plus was the proximity to the Dog Beach- great beach with so many friendly dogs & owners. Sadly, Huntington Beach is not as pet friendly as I had hoped- dogs are forbidden from the pier and the rest of the beach area. Most restaurants on the main strip had signs posted "no animals of any kind allowed in the outdoor patio dining area". This was a big disappointment since we're used to eating out frequently at many pet friendly restaurants in Pasadena, CA. We were lucky to find 2 great restaurants that allowed us to have our dog with us while dining. Luckily it was a short weekend dog beach getaway but any longer, we would've been forced to get take-out and eat in our room. The Dog Beach makes a day trip worthwhile but if you're visiting from far away with pets, a weekend is probably enough, then I'd move on to other more pet friendly beach destinations in California.
Mr. Manager, your "kinks" have not been "worked out".

We stayed for two nights in June with our grandson. The picture you see of the hotel does not tell you that it is ABOVE the stores, not a free-standing building... very difficult to find and to check-in to (there was no signage to direct us to the registration desk - which was up stairs from an empty area that is entered from the street). We paid premium for an ocean view.. which meant going out onto a small balcony and looking to the left.
It is insulting that they would also charge such a ridiculous price for parking your car.
The room was so small that there was no room for even one lounge chair - two double beds, a narrow dresser, and a desk with one chair left only room to walk between them. A large bathroom contained an obscenely deep, big tub for an area in short supply of water and a shower that sprayed the entire end of the room because the divider glass was too short. The floor was dirty.
The beds were made, but the room was not cleaned. Smears on the bathroom counter and mirror and dirt on the floor were there when we got there and when we left. Tiny ants crawled all over the bathroom. Staff said "we'll look into that" when we told them.
We had to call to have toiletries delivered to the room when we arrived... there wasn't even one bar of soap in the bathroom...and we had to call three separate places before anyone answered the telephone. There were not enough bath towels.
I could go on, but there is no need. We will not return, nor will we recommend to our friends and family who also travel often.
Lots of issues to work out - but there's potential.

I stayed here with a friend for one night in early May - only a few days after the opening. I should have known something was amiss when the valet drove off with the trunk of my car open and the luggage we were trying to remove still in it. We all had a laugh and my friend and I proceeded to the lobby.
I had made a reservation for a two room suite on the Shorebreak's website weeks before, only to be told that the room I reserved and had a confirmation number for was not available. This is completely unacceptable, and again did not bode well for the Shorebreak. We were put into a room with a king size bed and provided a roll-away. I have to say, with the exception of the massive bathroom, the room was rather small. We had wanted a two room suite, which is why we reserved one. We had to call the desk several times to have the rollaway delivered - it finally arrived around 11 pm - again, unacceptable. The fridge in the room was locked for some weird reason as well, and despite our calls to the desk and a thorough search of the room, we couldn't find a key.
To make up for some of the inconvenience, we were given a credit for the bar/restaurant, which we put to good use on drinks. A bit pricey, but overall the service was great in the bar. The food and bev manager stopped by to pay his regards as well - a nice touch.
The staff was clearly running ragged during this first opening weekend, but for the cost of staying at this hotel I expected things to run much more smoothly. This is definitely one of the more hip places to stay in the Huntington Beach area, and if the kinks get worked out, I'll think about returning.
(By the way - they charge for internet access. Lame.)
Great Staff!

My husband and I stayed at the Shorebreak during a vacation to Southern Califonia and were so impressed, we wished we were staying longer. An employee named Jessica checked us in and was exceptionally helpful. She offered a lot of great recommendations for restaurants and helped us upgrade to a great room with a fantastic view of the beach.
Our room had great amenities, including all different kinds of snacks and beverages for purchase and high quality toiletries and robes. The alarm clock had an iPod dock, which was a really nice touch. We asked the front desk staff for recommendations and directions throughout our stay and everyone we talked to was very friendly and helpful. Any time we passed a staff member in the hallway, they smiled and said hello. We'd never stayed at a hotel with such an incredibly pleasant staff.
We loved the decor also, which had a surf theme. The rooms are on the small side, but space is used efficiently and we really liked the layout of the room. We had a nice balcony with a hammock big enough to fit two people and a table and chairs. Overall, a great hotel I would love to visit again.
Perfect for teens!

What a great fun place to stay! Every employee that we met went out of their way to be gracious and professional. We had reasonable rates as part of an opening special. The rooms we were given were upgraded to ocean view rooms next to a long veranda that ran by all other rooms. on that side of the hotel. The rooms were comfortable with jumbo bean bag chairs and plasma tvs as well as large bathrooms. The hotel does not have a pool, but there are three fire pits in their court yard where you hang out. The hotel is located above shops and there are a lot of restaurants near by. The teens loved the beach and spent a lot of time there. The hotel is almost directly across from the pier. The only suggestion that I could make for improvement is to not place guests that bring animals on the side of the hotel that had the long shared veranda. Some dogs may be excited by the unfamiliar guests that they can see outside their room. I love that guests are allowed to bring their animals and I know that my teens loved seeing other guests animals in the hotel, just would be easier on the dogs if they had a private balcony. But that was a tiny detail and we had such a good time I would heartily recommend this hotel.
Great place to stay with dogs

My niece and I (and two dogs) just came back from an unbelievable stay at the Shorebreak. WOW! We did self park at first, but valet is the way to go. Self park is located right under the hotel- but can cost more if you are going in and out each day. It was easier to just valet ($24 a day). Valet men were fantastic! Check-in was good and front desk workers were very nice. We were told we were being put on the second floor- because they try to keep all the dogs on the same floor. It worked out perfect because the dogs could roam the whole side of the second floor balcony (see pictures). Everyone was very dog friendly. Room had a great view of the ocean and the sunset. Room was fantastic. It was a 20 minute walk to the dog beach. A lot of other guests asked if Shorebreak was a dog friendly hotel... YES!! The hotel is located right across from the pier and shopping is all around. Shorebreak is on top of Ra Sushi, CVS Pharmacy, Forever 21 and a lot of other shops. The only problem we came across was finding grass for our dogs to do their business in. Grass is very limited. We also had a problem getting ice for our room. I located someone who told me there was not an ice machine on the second floor. I asked if I could go to the 3rd floor and use theirs... and he said he would get me the ice because it came from the kitchen. Kind of a pain. For only being open a short time... WOW... we loved it and plan on going back and recommending it to all our friends. If you are traveling with dogs in this area- THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY! You can contact me if you want any dog friendly information. We hit all the dog spots!
Can't wait to return!

We enjoyed the perfect beach hotel vacation. The minute we stepped into the reception area and viewed the surfing video on the wall we felt ourselves relax. The nightmare travel hassles from New England were like a bad dream. Every single employee we met during our 4 night stay was super friendly and helpful, but in a most sincere way. We actually felt that way about everyone we came across while in Huntington Beach. The room was wonderful and the location cannot be beat. How great to be able to park the car and have everything within a block or two, and of course have the beach and pier right across the street. We had a courtyard view room, very quiet and comfortable. Beds and linens are fantastic. We parked in the public parking area under the hotel for 9.00 per day. Very convenient. Once again, we can't say enough about the staff at Shorebreak. Well done! Counting down the days until we can return.
