Our favorite Idyllwild hotel

We always try to stay at the Tahquitz when we go to Idyllwild, although sometimes we try too late to get a room there and have to stay elsewhere. When we plan ahead, we prefer a two bedroom suite for the four of us, although the one-bedroom units have been large enough to suffice when the bigger units were booked. With full kitchens, fireplaces, a pool and spa, the BBQ grills, and REALLY friendly staff, we have never had a bad experience there. The rooms are cleaner than anyplace else we have stayed, and you get a lot more for the money than the other places we have tried. A big two bedroom runs $130 for the four of us, and except for holidays, they don't have two night minimums like most hotels in Idyllwild. We always recommend this hotel to friends and family, and it must be OK as they are still our friends and we have not been disowned by the family!

Unique Quality: Location is great- walk into town or the State park, which is right across the street. The place is surrounded by huge pine trees (100' tall or more) and has great porches to sit outside on. The pool and spa are only open during the summer, but are sparkling and warm, and the chlorine level is just right. They allow dogs- and only dogs- which the kids like because we don't have one and they usually get to play with someone elses while they are there. The phones have a modem jack so we can check our email, and the phones are free. (I think the only other place with phones was the Idyllwild Inn, and they charged for using the phone.) There are miles of trails to hike, although the best ones we had to drive about 3 miles to the trailhead to get to. We recommend the "Ernie Maxwell Trail" from humber park if you have kids- not too strenuous. The Ranger station is right around the corner from the hotel- they will give you maps and advice.
