The Salton Sea, CA is between Interstate 10 and Interstate 8 approximately 100 miles in from the Pacific Ocean between Indio on I-10 and El Centro on I-8.
a must do: see the dead fish floating in Salten Sea (red circles indicate the fish)
It is a lovely experience. They serve bubbly too. A nice way to start the day.

salten sea is a fascinating, but depressing place. the area used to be a popular vacation spot. today the area is desolated and few people live around there. the water is somehow poluted and ruins of hotels are to be found. if you are into apocalytic scenery, salten sea is the place to be.
