Travel Tips for Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree Tip

by grace.cheung

Imagine: a sunny afternoon, the weather is at a comfortable high 50F/ low 20C. The air is crisp and clear. It seems like you can see into things at infinitive distance. Soft breeze comes and goes. And imagine, such quietness. There are no one around in miles. Just you. Just you and the sky and the rocks and the joshua trees. You have disappeared. You have become one of the rocks, the trees, or the breeze. You have melted into nature.

Ryan Mountain

by blaird

Ryan Mountain is a fairly ambitious hike, it may be better to do in the early morning, the desert gets pretty hot. You will get some outstanding panoramic views from the 5,461-foot summit.

This trail is best found by entering from the north side of the park at either the Black Rock or Oasis visitor Center same as always...boots, backpack, lots of water, a lunch, spare clothes for warmth.

Bright sunny days and star gazing extravaganza

Coyote Hole is featured on my website with lots of pics.
I've hiked with my girlfriend to the top of Copper Mountain....glorious view. We drove over the Pinto Mountains road in the JTNP all the way back to Hwy. 62. Very scary narrow, steep, rocky road for the wildly adventurous. I'd advise traveling with two vehicles, water, food, tools and a camera.
Don't miss a dinner at the 29 Palms Inn in 29 Palms, and weekend smorgasbord at the Royal Siam Thai restaurant in Joshua Tree.
See Frank Lloyd Wright architecture at the Institute of Mentalphysics. They have an awesome bookstore/giftshop too.
Check out the former home of Bev Doolittle and hike south. We saw lizards, tortoise, big cat prints; silent and awesome out there!
Visit the Noah Purifoy Foundation home that is a wonderland of Noah's art.
Always ask to see local artist media and crafts wherever you shop!!
Stop at the Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce for maps and info and have fun in the Park!

Joshua Tree

My boyfriend and I drove through Joshua Tree in January on our way back to Palm Springs from San Diego. I wanted to show him where I used to live, in nearby 29 Palms. Lots of memories in this place! My travelogue has some photos of the desert scenery we saw.

"Joshua Tree National Park"

The trees was first named by Mormon pioneers in the nineteenth century, who thought that the upturned branches resembled the arms of the prophet Joshua, pointing the way to the promised land. That's why they called Joshua trees.
