Swimming in J-Tree

by Sunshine4410

I am wondering if there is a good place to swim near J-Tree?

I did not see anyplace to swim in the park either. I even took a picture of a "No Swimming" sign in the park with no water in sight. The only swimming will probably be in the pools at the motels.

Only pools at the motels and at the public swimming pool in Palm Springs, if you do not mind this little drive from the townships around the national park.

There is a kind of a lake in the park but this is not for swimming. The water held by Barker Dam is only a rain-fed reservoir used by wildlife.

Travel Tips for Joshua Tree National Park

Relax. Hike. Meditate. Ponder....

Relax. Hike. Meditate. Ponder. See the Stars. Hear the absolute Silence. Since Joshua is relatively far from the city lights of LA and is relatively clear out in the desert, you can get some pretty amazing night sky views. Try to get up in the middle of the night for a little peek at the sky. If you have binoculars, you might want to bring them

Rangers and Staff at Oasis of Mara Visiting Center

They were awesome. They helped us not only with information about the park, but also information around the whole 29 Palms Area. Where does the water in the tap come from? What is the bird that sounds like...? Why are there all these fences around the houses? They could answer all of it and they were helpful, nice, and funny to boot. Make use of this valuable information resource. Two favorites - clambering on the monzogranite rock formations and the hike to 49 Palms Oasis.

Desert Flowers / Stargazing

The Rock formations are really nice to look at and take pictures and they have some pretty nice camp sites......Jumbo Rocks. There were very few flowers in bloom in the month of March i suppose because of lack of rain ......But i did enjoy my one day road trip to the desert and i plan on going back and staying a night in the back of my truck with an airbed and watch the stars.

Beautiful tree down The Barker Dam

by Jennymnyc

Surprisingly, the Joshua Tree was not what impressed me the most. We did the 1 mile hike at The Barker Dam where I found the most amazing site ever. It 's like one of those beauties that never get recognition, therefore it had no name. I loved it's framework of branches and twigs coming from everywhere. It possessed such power and beauty.

Joshua Trees

by JLBG

Joshua Trees were given this name by Mormon settlers who felt that upon their arrival, Joshua welcomed them, with its raised arms. The Joshua Trees have indeed an odd look and are really amazing for those who have never seen them ! This gives to the Park a truly remarkable sight and a landscape of its own.
