Travel Tips for La Jolla

explore the ocean from the ocean

by TonyeMeads

One of the best ways to see the coastline is to rent a sea Kayak. In the La Jolla Shores area, there are a couple of different places that rent kayaks they will take you on a guided tour of the areas coastline a must!! Alternatively, rent one on your own if you have experience and head south. Go towards the Cove and the caves you can go into some of the caves and the experience is cool.
If you want to eat at a local spot try La Rancharita on La Jolla Blvd. (known locally as the Ranch) it is loud but good, we have all been going there since I was a kid. Different owner now but a local as well with fresh caught fish and a fun atmosphere.
I also suggest walking the towns...do not drive--it is too hard and you miss some of the buildings that are still standing. La Jolla has almost been completely re-built from the original quaint little village it once was (I grew up here, as well as my Mom) but you can still find some of the original charm if you walk in and around the village.

Walking on UCSD Campus

by olgaehr

Ok, maybe it's not that interesting. But since i went to school there, i just love going back to San Diego and spending 1/2 a day walking around the campus and inhaling the ocean breeze and smell of eucalyptus trees.

The campus has plenty of modern art scattered all over.

It's a great place to relax, read a book, jog.

Squirrels

Something I liked in California was the amount of squirrels we founded just free walking on the parks.

We saw many signs of not feeding them so I guess they can be a problem sometimes

Mission Bay Beaches

by Carmela71

Outside of La jolla driving south in direction to San Diego is this area called Mission bay where you can find this beaches.

It was called originally False bay but now is a water complex for recreation purposes

La Jolla, CA - San Diego's Northern Neighbor

by ATXtraveler

"Work Trip, evening stop"

In January 2008, I had to make a business trip to San Diego. As the business was in Mission Valley, a very suburban strip mall part of town, we decided to get out of the city a bit and stay in La Jolla. We were only there briefly, but we did have some great food!
