Hotel Laguna

This was the old original and traditional high-end hotel when I first visited years and years ago.

Lots of history, still very upscale clientele, and renovated tastefully just enough to keep up with the new resorts without losing its original personality.

Unique Quality: A good restaurant (Claes Restaurant) inside; early, "old-hotel California" ambience, and of course it's right on the main beach.

The Hotel Laguna is a historic hotel located right in the center of Laguna Beach. It's directly next to the main beach and across from all the great shops, restaurants and art galleries. If you stay here, you will not need a car in town. Everything is withing walking distance. This beautiful old hotel is topped by a bell tower and is visible from most points in town. The entry has an old-Spanish feel to it, with lots of pretty tile and woodwork. There is a good, casual restaurant at the back (right on the beach) which is a great place to grab cocktails and dinner at night. The hotel is directly on the sand and even has a small, private beach area exclusively for hotel guests.

Unique Quality: I think that Hotel Laguna is the best deal in town. The prices here are great, considering how centrally-located and comfortable this hotel is. We really enjoyed our stay here.

The rooms have a slightly 1980's decor. They are certainly not as luxurious as the Montage or the Surf and Sand. But everything is clean and comfortable. Your best best is to ask for an ocean view (or partial ocean view) room. It is definitely worth it!!
