Travel Tips for Lake Arrowhead

Forget the crappy tourist...

by TrueBeliever

Forget the crappy tourist traps for the natural world. Leave behind those boutiques and fancy restaraunts for the forest. On the Rim of the World highway (between Lake Arrowhead and Running Springs) there are many places where you can stop and look out upon Southern California and see for a hundred miles or more--an excellent place to snap pictures of sunsets. Also, along this same stretch of highway you'll find the arboreum, where a decades old trail winds through a cornucopia of the natural world. Numerous different species of flowers and trees flourish in the area and at key spots along the trail there are signs and plaques admonishing some particularly vivid aspect of the wildlife or history surrounding the mountains. I still remember walking up to my favorite spot on the trail for the first time. A big dogwood tree in full bloom with pink buds in the early spring afternoon loomed over my head as my father read a story about Christ from the plaque...according to the story, the cross was made from dogwood--and the tree still bears tribute to that time--though I can't remember in what way, lol!
Many lovers have gotten themselves lost here... I went to Junior High here. Ahh, the good ol' days, when my friends and I would play touch-football or a game called 'wall-ball.' Times when we would be forced in the winter to line up outside in our PE shorts and freeze our butts off in the chill morning air. The time in our lives when we were lingering on the last vestiges of childhood innocence, before we were thrown into a world in which our bodies betrayed us and our newfound instincts drove us to rebel in a hopeless battle against what we thought was wrong with our small lives...

Oh yah, I LOVE the M&M candy apples this one small shop sells--DELicioUS!!! It's located next to (where else?) McDonald's...

I took horse riding lessons...

by TrueBeliever

I took horse riding lessons here five years ago. This guy who suppossedly had trained Maddona and PeeWee Herman how to ride (not simultaneously of course) taught me as well--what an honor hmm??? It took me awhile to actually get up on the horse, but once I did, I was riding in no time. There's nothing quite like the feeling of riding a horse through the woods, down a twisting hillside, and through the towering trees...the cool wind in your face...far more rewarding a form of transportation and enjoyment than driving a car...

Champions On Ice

by Etoile2B

Lake Arrowhead is known for being one of the countries leading training facilities for Olympic figure skaters. Former Olympians train fresh crops of skaters (like Michelle Kwan) here daily in their state of the art facility on the hill. They used to have a second public facility below the training center that was open air located on the main drag in Blue Jay, unfortunately a few years ago heavy snow storms collapsed part of the roof and at the moment they have no plans to rebuild the public center. Since then they have opened the training facility to public skating sessions throughout the day. Sessions vary depending on the season. They are open year round and offer group lessons and private training in addition to their open public skating sessions. If you're a skater bring yor own equipment. This is the ice Michelle Kwan trains on, so it's in great condtion. For the novice they have skate rentals available for public sessions as well as a skate shop for all your skating needs.

My favorite spot on the planet

by Etoile2B

My grandparents owned a house up here for more years than I've been alive. It was the only constant in my life and absolutely my favorite place. It was a gathering place where the extended family would meet for holidays. It was my secret, special place where I could go to get away from it all. I thought it would always be in the family, alas, when my grandparents passed away the family sold the house, and I wasn't in a place where I could afford to buy it myself so my little piece of paradise is someone else’s now. All I have left are memories and my favorite lamp. So this page might end up being a tribute more than anything. Who knows?

Lovely Lake Arrowhead

by meeshelmybelle

"Water Skiiing on the Lake"

Lake Arrowhead is a very small community, escpecially since most people that own property there dont live there year round. My family and I enjoy spending weekends in the summer on the lake and Christmas in the snow.
If you are near Los Angeles and you want to enjoy a small mountain resort town, Lake Arrowhead is a great place to go.
