More about Glendeven Inn
The most romantic and beautiful inn ever!
The Glendeven Inn is beautifully situated above a stunning cliff overlooking the rugged north coast. Each room is unique, charming, romantic and gorgeous. The fireplaces were a big plus. Our room was huge with views of the ocean. And the details were top-notch: from bathroom spray to the luxurious bed covers to the soft robes hanging in the armoire. The living room in the main house is like something out of a New England inn of the 1800s, only with a light and airy feel. The location is great; a beautiful short walk to the wild cliffs, and a short drive to the town of Mendocino. Five stars!
High marks for Glendeven
For those of you seeking romance, a honeymoon, which was the purpose of our stay, or time away from the daily grind, Glendeven is the place for you. An outstanding inn just south of Mendocino, the place offers excellent breakfasts, wood burning fireplaces and a resident group of lamas! You don't want to miss the daily lama feedings. Don't pay attention to the negative reviews, and there are few of them. Sadly, there are traveleres out there who will never be satisfied no matter how hospitable an establishment. The owners were helpful and patient with all of my dumb questions, and some not so dumb. John, one of the owners, gave my wife and I several excellent hiking tips as well as dining recommendations. The shoreline is stunning - a photographer's dream, and nearby Anderson Valley offers travelers the opportunity to visit local wineries known for their zinfandels. Put Glendeven Inn at the top of your list when considering lodgings in the Mendocino area.
We return again and again to Glendeven
My husband and I have now stayed at the Glendeven Inn 4 times. We (especially my husband) are not bed and breakfast people but we love this Inn and we haven't gone anywhere else for our long weekend getaways since finding it! It is such a beautiful and romantic location. We first visited right after I finished law school and we have returned 3 times to catch a much needed long-weekend away from our kids and our hectic lives. The hor dourves are always delicious, the ambiance is peaceful and serene, and the other guests have always been respectful. There has been a recent ownership change - I was a little skeptical booking our most recent visit due to this change but I quickly saw that nothing had changed (except for the wonderful addition of the llamas). The breakfasts (which we love) were still served in the baskets, the rooms were just as clean as before, and the hostess was helpful with dinner recommendations. We have come to deal with the fact that the inn doesn't have phones in the room - we were assured that if my mom (who was watching our kids) needed to get ahold of us, the calls go directly to the owners home and they will sprint over to get us. I wish cell phone coverage was available, but if you get a little closer to Mendocino we can get reception and check in back home. We love the leisurely hikes on the headlands - there is something so amazing about this location.
A very well thought out bed-n-breakfast - every last detail has been considered. The SF Chronicle every morning with breakfast and a fresh pot of Songbird coffee.
My girl and I stayed in the loft - the quietest and most private of all the rooms - called The Garrett. Out of the window, we could see the bay and hear the waves at night, and hear the faint rushing of the cars during the day. We were lucky to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine with the proprietors' llamas under a full moon weekend night.
The bed is cozy and quaint and the breakfast is heavenly and unforgettable. Across the highway is a brisk ten-minute walk - get lost in the fog and take pictures of each other - or drop your camera in the ocean and live in the moment. Glendeven made our weekend relaxing and joyous. We can't wait to come back and lose ourselves again.
(Glendeven as of the time of this rambling, has one of the best websites - easy to browse availability and book the rooms and dates that you desire.)
We stayed at Glendeven this Thanksgiving, while I was recuperating from illness. Imagine how wonderful it was to have a great breakfast brought to our room every morning. The hosts were gracious but not obtrusive, and the grounds were beautiful and relaxing. I felt much better after this stay!
Great food, nice host, good rooms and free Wifi...
Very nice and quaint place. We loved our stay here. Had a view of the ocean and Lamas from our room. It is not right next to the ocean but on the other side 1. Most other inns (including Little river inn) was on the other side of 1. Heritage house was the only inn i saw on the way that was on the ocean side of Hwy 1. But i am sure there were others i missed.
We stayed int he Garrett room and views were nice. The room itself was clean and good. Breakfast was excellent and john the host was very nice and helpful. Would recommend the place if you plan to stay in a inn near Mendocino. We just walked in and got our reservations. Got good rates as the season was winter and rooms weren't filling up. Has free WiFi, which we thought was excellent as we could still be on email as phone coverage in this area is spotty. Overall - great place to stay if you are going to Mendo for a weekend.
Glendeven is a lil' bit of heaven in Mendocino, Ca.
We have been to running away to Mendocino, Ca. from Aptos, Ca. (Monterey Bay) since 1973 and it was love at first sight and stay! We have stayed at a various B& B's and our favorite spot is Glendeven. We love the area, the gorgeous grounds, the fresh ocean air breeze, the warm hospitality and friendly service, as well as the romantic ambiance. The yummy appeteasers and wine in the evening is a lovely touch, making you feel like special welcomed friends of honor. It's a great way to unwind and relax and to meet the other interesting guests. The in-room breakfasts are creatively gourmet and just the perfect touch to start the new day ahead.
The staff goes above and beyond the highest standards of hospitalilty, making your stay a meaningful and memorable one.
That is why we are looking forward and planning our next rendevous come spring.
The Perfect Inn
We spent a long weekend at Glendeven, and we can't wait to return. This is exactly what we were looking for: plush, luxurious furnishings (the beds!), enchanting setting with ocean views, lots of privacy, charming hosts, elegant breakfast (brought to the room!), quality restaurants within a five-minute drive, towering coastal redwoods, and...llamas! No kidding, there is a family of six llamas that graze the meadow between the inn and the sea. And one of them is a baby. She actually nuzzled me. Just plain adorable.
The best inn/bed and breakfast experience we have ever had.
We had an amazing time. The hosts were very hospitable and did everything possible to make our trip wonderful. We were visiting during playoffs. Although our room didn't have tv, John helped us find a place that was showing the game. This is a great and lovely place with FANTASTIC food!!!
What a fantastic place!! We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, from the very warm welcome we got on arrival to feeding the llamas. We stayed in the Garrett room and woke each morning to views of the pacific. The breakfasts were outstanding and set us up for the rest of the day. We ate in the evenings in Mendocino where the food again was outstanding. We ate at both the The Moosse Cafe and the Cafe Beaujolais and would recommend both - you need to book early to get a table but the guys at Glendeven will help. If you are into wine there are many wineries in the Anderson Valley (30 mins drive) that offer tastings with Pinot Noir wines being most popular due to the climate in this part of California.
If you want to relax, enjoy great food and drink great wine then this is a great place to stay.
