Queen Mary
I haven`t been at the Queen Mary. But it looked very impressive from the roundwalk at the harbour. The Queen Mary has a long history, played a role in the 2nd world war.Today it is a hotel and visitor attraction and can be visited.

Hello
Can anybody tell me whether there is public transit available from LAX to Long Beach (specifically the Queen Mary) mid-week, mid-day? How complicated is it to get from the airport to LB? What does it cost?
Also, I've heard that there's a water taxi or something from the Queen Mary to the Convention Centre...if so, what's the schedule like, and what does it cost?
Thanks very much for any advice!

You can take the free metro bus from the airport to the light rail line. There you can transfer to the southbound Blue Line, this will take you to Long Beach and you will be within walking distance of the Queen Mary
Go to the lower level and look for LAX Shuttle bus stops. Take the "Line G" LAX Shuttle bus (they have several lines). It has the sign "G Aviation Green Line Station"...it's free.
The bus will take you to the Aviation Station of the Green Line. Take the train going east; it has the sign "Norwalk." Get off at the Harbor Freeway Station. Transfer to a southbound Blue Line train going to Long Beach. At the very end, take the free Passport "C" shuttle bus to the Queen Mary.
For more info on Green Line and Blue Line trains, go to (www.mta.net). For info on Passport shuttle buses, go to (http://www.lbtransit.com/routemenu.asp?id=86c). For info on LAX shuttle buses, please search the Internet.
I think the Passport shuttle bus is more reliable than the water taxi as a way to get around Long Beach.

My fave place to chill out! Here's the map... since I can't possibly find the words to elaborate any further.
Long beach has a fine college, Cal State Long Beach. It is known more by its initials (CSULB). The sports teams and students are referred as the 49ers or simply "Beach"! Particularly, the baseball team are known as the "dirtbaggers" because they play hard on the field, taking the dirt on their chin.
Pictured is a lovely scene taken from the campus, just an exucse to put another water fountain picture :-)
Before you leave on a trip (no matter how long you'll be away), list the complete contents in your luggage (that's everything... including make-up, books and medications). Carry a photo of your suitcase as well as a description of it (i.e. make, type, etc.). Should your bag be
lost or stolen, you'll have everything you need with you in order to expedite a claim.
Here's another important tip I've learnt from my well-traveled and well-heeled buddies/ colleagues over the years - and that is to ALWAYS roll your clothes when packing.... and you'd never have to worry about ironing again when you reach your destination.
How do the clothes stay rolled up?
Here's another trick I've picked up: Just cut off the legs of old panty hose. Put your hand inside one of the cut-off legs, grab that rolled up
t-shirt and pull it through. And, Voila! My things stay rolled up like assorted sausages....
Basically, this is my important rule of thumb: DO also try and plan your wardrobe in such a way that you'll have no problem mixing and
matching your outfits and it should be able to see you through from day to night. So in this instance, that little black dress WILL come in VERY handy for the night events AND in the day time too! :-)) Ladies, DON'T forget to transfer all your toner, cleanser, night cream et al into small plastic containers - to save luggage space.
If you're staying with a friend... life gets easier, of course. Just use your friend's toiletries! But make sure you replenish what you've used up. We don't want our best friends to become your arch enemies, do we? :-D Keep in mind that long-term travel can do some serious damage to a camera. Losing it in airline luggage land... or just plain theft are also concerns. So you may want to purchase an older or used camera.
Online auctions such as eBay or Eggheadare are good places to find these.
Some mail order houses also offer very competitive prices.
Phew... hope I haven't confused you? DON'T forget to bring along your ATM card and.... an open mind.
Remember, if your ATM card is linked to international networks like 'Cirrus', 'Plus', 'The Exchange' etc, you can withdraw money from any ATM machines in the world. What's more, you'd even benefit from the low interbank exchange rates being given to you vis-a-vis if you were to change it at your local money-changer. I have survived on this method for ALL my trips abroad and so far, no ATM machines have failed me. Yes, even in the remotest villages in Africa. :-)) If you haven't tried this method, I challenge you to do so today. And be pleasantly surprised at how much you can save at the end of the day using this method (thanks to the low interbank exchange rates offered to YOU, the customer). I kid you not!

The El Dorado Nature Center remains a well kept secret. Many long time residents are not even aware of its existence. It is tucked in an eastern coner of the city just off the San Gabriel river bed and bike path. The grounds have an information center which offers information and the local flora and fauna that covered Long Beach prior to housing development. The park guides offer tours for small groups however you can borrow a birdwatching and plant guide from the ranger station if you prefer to explore on your own. If you are very quiet you might come across some deer, racoons, foxes or coyotes. The 2 mile hiking path runs beside a turtle filled lake and winds through the pleasant terrain. Jogging and bicycles and dogs are strictly prohibited. The Nature Center is located on Spring Street between the 605 fwy and Studebaker Road. Parking is $3 and admission is free though donations a cheerfully accepted.
