Trolley from San Diego to Long Beach

by Vada61

Is it possible to take the trolley between these two cities? I will be in town for a couple days and would like to cruise between these two places. Thank You

Nope, sorry. Try the Amtrak Coaster.

Well, you cannot take the SD Trolley to Long Beach. However, you can take the SD Trolley to Santa Fe Depot and take the Amtrak Surfliner to LA. Then take the subway to the Metro Blue Line. You can also take the Coaster but you'll have to either transfer to Metrolink or Amtrak Surfliner in San Clemente.

Not directly because no trolley runs along the coast, but you can take the Blue Line subway to the Green Line to Norwalk and catch an MTA train to SD. see scag.ca.gov

Travel Tips for Long Beach

Where do I start?! The Queen...

by empos

Where do I start?! The Queen Mary is the signature landmark tourist destination for this city. Next to her is berthed a Russian submarine that is a MUST visit for anyone who has never been on a sub before. Then there's the Aquarium of the Pacific where you can PET THE SHARKS as well as several (manta?) rays and see all types of aquatic animals (my favorites were the sea otters). There's also Shoreline Village which has some great restaurants and little shops. You can take FREE shuttle bus transportation to all these locations from various stops around town. Visiting the Queen Mary and her submarine buddy and eating in the evenings outside looking out over the Marina

'Are we on course'?....

by bugalugs

When we visited the Queen Mary we pulled into the car park, which was very full with lots of huge trailers and lorries, people milling about, and cables everywhere.

When we actually got on board it was the same, and then we saw the camera crews.

We were then told that they were filming the tv programme 'The X Files'!!!!

They didnt want us as extras though!! :-)

BOYCOTT STARBUCKS!

by jenn_d

The It's a Grind Coffee chain is a Long Beach institution that manages to thrive in the competitive coffee market. Starbucks recognized this small chains success and immediately opened shops across the street from each of the It's a Grind coffehouses. Locals actively boycott Starbucks by starting their day with coffee at one of the 6 family owned locations.

The original is at the corner of Spring & Los Coyotes. Other locations are as follows:
Signal Hill - next to Costco
Traffic Circle - next to the car wash
Bixby Knolls- Atlantic Ave

Packing List

by empos

Take something with wheels - you might do a little walking from where you parked your car. I can't speak for what it's like except for July - I highly recommend bringing a light jacket for the evenings or long sleave top/sweater.

Long Beach Walking Tours - only $5!

by theprimespotdotcom

That's right - most cities charge about $20! Check out lbheritage.org for an interesting insight to the 5th largest city in California.
1st and 3rd Saturdays (10am til about 12:30ish) you travel down Pine Ave to Ocean and back up the Promenade, seeing things you would never know existed! On 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings, check out the East Village Arts District (dot org!) from a historical, architectural view...
