A Hotel Near Malibu

by bronxbutterfly

I'm trying to get out of the Las Vegas heat for a day and want to go to Malibu Beach this weekend. Any suggestions for a clean hotel near the beach, and maybe even Santa Monica Pier. I like the Comfort Hotels for quick/short stays like that but many of them seem to be booked. I don't want to pay more than $100 per night. Any Suggestions? Thanks!

Travel Tips for Los Angeles

Red Eye Flights and the LA Sun

by Sagespot

Red eye flights into and out of LAX provide some of the most beautiful sunsets that I have ever seen.

If you have a layover in LA, it is such a short trip to the beach to watch the sunset/sunrise that you should always make an effort to go!

Los Angeles is one of the most...

E3 in LA

by joits

As I've mentioned before, I love the fact that many conventions are held in Los Angeles. Easily one of the best is the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3. Like most big conventions, its held at the LA convention center.

This is the video game industry's big show where they showoff their latest games and hardware.

The big three, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are always there showing off their games and new systems. They have booths set up with games that will be coming out in a few months. Other major companies such as Sega, Namco, Acclaim, etc are also there.

The only catch... its not open to the general public. The only way to get in is if you are in the industry or work for a company that's in the video game industry. Getting in for the first time knowing that I'm not in the industry but somehow I found a way to get in!

I also really love seeing the models who are hired by the various companies to promote them. Taking pics with all of them is pretty fun... hehe... as you can see from my member pic.

See Revolving Mural Art at lovely Hotel Figueroa

by marinarena

Contemporary art is always on display in downtown LA.- and not just at the Museum of Contemporary Art, or MOCA, as we locals call the venue. Rather, an intriguing showcase of what I'd deem contemporary and artistic (even though commercial also) is the continuous tri-wall mural of Hotel Figueroa. Each day, thousands or motorists and pedestrians pass by and many notice the latest commecial advertisement for us to take into our consciousness- or just to simply glance at and then quickly forget.

The Moroccan-Arabesque themed hotel, opened in 1925 is architecturally charming itself. Ooh, the ornate design of the tiles, lanterns, gates and doors here...ooh la la the bold rich red, yellow, orange, blues on the exterior and within the hotel- will make you think you're in Casablanca, or Fez.

Going Topless

by csordila

It is a big surprise for most European tourists, that the people in the States are ratherly prudish. Dropping your bikini top on the beach is not allowed by law and maybe you will be fined. Punishment means in certain cases not only a stiff fine but a court appearance as well.
Yet, you can find topless beach in almost every county along the California coast. There are at least 50 places where topless sunbathing is tolerated, but in Los Angeles and Orange county unfortunately not.
