The Beverly Hilton was once THE Place to stay in Beverly Hills, and was the realisation of Conrad Hilton's dream to create the utmost luxury hotel in Beverly Hills. Some time ago there were talks of teraing it down, but instead the Hotel was renovated from top to bottom, decorating the interior in an up-to-the-minute style, while retaining the historical 50's exterior. My overall opinion is - it doesn't really work. Our room was nicely and comfortably furnished, but though the bathroom was remodelled in modern style, it was very cramped and lacked expected essentials, like a shaving mirror. The air conditioning was ancient and noisy - it also seemed to work in reverse (i.e. heated the room instead of cooling it) - so we switched it off and opened the windows. The old retainer staff are wonderful and provide the best of service in the hotel - but some of the younger staff are downright rude. I'll be dropping a line to the Hotel about Christian the pool boy, who took an unmerited dislike to Mum and I and never brought our food or drink orders over a three day period. On the other hand, the concierge was incredible, securing five out of five reservations in signature restaurants. The public areas were wonderful - especially the Lobby Bar where a pianist performed from time to time. The restaurants are Trader Vics and the Stardust penthouse restaurant - I'll deal with them in my restaurant reviews. I adored the walk through the hotel to Traders - the walls are lined with huge black and white pictures of the golden era movie stars. One other negative was the total lack of availability of the hotel courtesy car - we asked for it four times and were told on three occasions that it was unavailable. On the fourth, it hadn't appeared after 30 mins. We had reservations at The Ivy and ended up calling a taxi. Not good enough Hilton! My impression was that at night The Hilton are more interested in their arriving party glitterati - there was a reception of some sort every night. At those times they forget their guests.
The concierge is beyond reproach - actually is one of the best I have ever seen. The pool is wonderful, too - almost olympic size. pity the sun beds are not cleared when guests leave them - it's impossible to figure out which is free and which is not. It's also one of the best spots for star spotting and lots of stars still stay there. | | | | Courtyard By Marriott Los Angeles - Century Boulevard: Courtyard by Marriott LAX Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
There are certain things I love about a Marriott hotel. This one seemed to take them all to higher levels. The bathrooms looked liek they were brand new, the food service was open 24 hours, and even the chair at the desk seemed to be some kind of ergonomicaly perfect chair. It wasn't just like home, it was actually better. But I am poor, and have bad furniture. It is in a great location (near LAX) and is remarkably quiet, all things considered.
The hotel doesn't have any really outstanding qualities that set it apart from every other hotel. But it is just a level of service and comfort that seem to be above many of the hotels in the area. Plus, it is close to the beach, a lot of golf courses, and you can hit downtown pretty fast. Other than that, the pool, fitness room, high spped internet, food, etc. are all the same types of things you would find elsewhere, just to a higher standard. | | | | Hilton Garden Inn: LA's Best kept secret! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Fresh, Small and friendly, Comfortable, Great for everyone! I found the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, and a pleasure to have around. Facilities in the rooms are outstanding, including a microwave, fridge and coffee maker.
This hotel has some real gems. Internet connection in the rooms, for your laptop and with webtv. However there is a room available to guests with a printer, photocopier, pc, internet connection and other office type equipment, so very useful. Probably the best gem, is the shuttle bus that will take you anywhere within 5 miles of the hotel. Of course that includes the airport, but I used it to go shopping, and he comes to collect you when you are finished. Also Manhattan Beach is within the 5 miles, so you can get down there too. | | | | Regent Beverly Wilshire: The Pretty Woman Hotel | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This was the hotel I wanted to stay in when I visited LA. I've been wanting to stay here ever since Julia Roberts swanned into the bar wearing that red dress in the movie Pretty Woman. Indeed, most girls I know have the same wish. When it finally came to the time that I could visit LA, the Reg Bev Wil was booked out. A taxi driver explained why - Bill Clinton had booked out the entire hotel for a three night stay. Lucky Bill! It seems to me that most of the other hotels have this on their "to do" list for the tourists, but I wanted one better and booked the Boulevard restaurant there for dinner. I'll be writing a seperate restaurant tip, but for now I will comment on what I saw of the service and public areas. The hotel is simply stunning. It's a Four Seasons hotel now and this is evident from the moment you walk through those elegant doors into the cool marble lobby. Four Seasons go the extra mile with everything, and one of the things I particularly notice are the flower arrangements, which are always stunning. This hotel is no exception, and I will post a pic here of the beautiful arrangement that graced the lobby table.
The service here was so exceptional, particularly from the Valet, that we will definitely back. For my fairytale experience please read my introductory page. They delighted me. They made me feel like Julia Roberts herself - and as the pretty woman, not the hooker;-) Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 9500 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90212-2491Phone: 310-275-5200Directions: At the junction of Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo DriveWebsite: www.fourseasons.com

 | | | | Warner Center Marriott Woodland Hills: Very Nice and Comfortable Hotel | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
In my recent trip to California I stayed at the Marriott Warner Center for 2 nights at the beginning of my trip and 4 nights at the end and I only have good things to stay about it. The rooms are excellent, very cosy, large, with very confortable beds and pillows ( the new Marriott bed and pillow concept), large windows with a small balcony ,very good views and many good tv channels. The bathroom is also large and confortable with marble sinks, very good aromateraphy toiletries and a good shower with great pressure. One of the days I had breakfast at the hotel, a very nice buffet ( not included in the rate), plentiful and with a large selection of eggs, bacon, sausages, waffles, pancakes and juices , coffee, bagels, doughnuts, etc. They also have a Starbucks at the lobby where you can buy coffee, waters and cakes or sandwiches. The room was always perfectly clean and the staff throughout the hotel were all very friendly and always willing to help, from maids to concierge and front desk staff. The internet is free of charge in the rooms and at the business center. There are two large shopping centers in front of the hotel with lots of shops and good restaurants, Macy's , Nordstrom and Sears. The hotel also has an outdoor and indoor swimming pool which I didn't get to use. I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel and felt like being home. I got an excellent rate of $99 and $129, which I found a bargain, considering the hotel is very nice and very upscale. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone who travels to Los Angeles . | | | | W Los Angeles - Westwood: Trendy Place to lay your head! Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Well, as you may know from many of the other hotel trips I have written, I am a platinum member of Starwood Preferred Guests, so I get a free upgrade whenever checking into a hotel in their property. The W Westwood may be known more for its amenities outside of the hotel rather than inside. The hotel room itself was very nice, it appeared to be more like an apartment, with a seperate living area from the bedroom. Very modern furniture, and of course the sweet sleeper bed expected from SPG properties. Outside however was one of the nicest pool scenes I have ever seen. Lots of fake blondes laying out trying to be seen, reminded you alot of a copacabana setting. If you are looking for the ultimate place to pick up a gold digger, you have found it! I also had dinner at the hotel (I know, a traveler's faux pas!)... but it was very delicious. Get something with the guacamole, as it was excellent!
