 | Los Angeles Reviews | Tips 11 - 20 of 344 | | big hotel near the beach of Santa Monica It takes you about 1 hour by car to get to the centre of LA and about 5 min by feet to the centre of Santa Monica.
The rooms are big and friendly with bathroom, TV, coffee-machine and mini-bar. The view from the higher floors is amazing! In the backyard there is a nice little pool. Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I will admit that I am a magnet for bad service. I seem to have a kind of dumb luck with it. So imagine that it really isn't typical when I tell you that the hotel locking me out at three am and not letting me in until seven that morning is sort of a fluke. At least my bags were secure. When I got there, I was given a lovely view of a roof, a sign, a palm tree, and the highway. It was right over the bar and lobby, so naturally my eastern time zone sleeping patterns were disrupted a little. Plus, there was a remodeling project going on which made the shower have interesting noises, odd water pressure and even stranger temperature changes. The room itself is everything I needed, minus my again fluke shower problems which I am sure have been resolved now. It was clean, it was roomy, had a good bed, great air conditioner, and was central to everyplace I wanted to be. Montebello is a little South East of Downtown LA, and was convenient to avoiding traffic (as much as possible) to anyplace south of LA where I wanted to go. The Hotel does United Sky Miles, but you have to be a member of the Best Western Club. Join when you make reservations, or at the front desk. Better to join over the phone though. There is a language barrier with some of the workers and the English language.

Great location...a few blocks from the fabulous Beverly Shopping Center. A short taxi ride from Melrose Avenue, just down the hill from the Sunset Strip. Small pool but great hotel!

 | | | | Radisson Hotel At Los Angeles Airport: More Priceline near the airport
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
2nd stay October 2006 The area around LAX would not be my first choice for a location when visiting Los Angeles, however, since we were visiting my Grandma in nearby Inglewood, this was the most convenient location for that. If I were visiting on my own, I would stay further north, perhaps in Beverly Hills. For both stays, in March 2006 and October 2006, I bid on Priceline, for a 3* at LAX, and got the Radisson LAX for $55 per night plus taxes in October 2006. The Radisson is the closest hotel to LAX although there are many other options in the area that are almost as convenient. They run a free shuttle to/from the airport. The check in process was quick on our October 2006 visit, the only service glitch was the alarm clock that went off at 4 am (when am I going to remember to check those?)
Room-the room was spacious and clean, the beds reasonably comfortable and the rooms appeared to be updated since our 2005 visit with warmer colors and updated bathrooms. I requested two double beds ahead of time since I was staying with my dad and they accomodated my request. There was a TV with a very limited number of stations, iron and ironing board. No in-room safe or refrigerator (you could rent one for $10 per day). Bathroom-shower was fine although it took a bit of work to get the hot water on, toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap. There was a hair dryer and coffee maker in the bathroom. There was an outdoor pool (too cold to use it) and a small health club that was located outside the building that had treadmills, a stationary bike, ski machine and some weight equipment. There are a couple of bars, a casual restaurant and a nicer restaurant. Parking, as with most of the LAX hotels, is an extra $13 per day with in and out privileges. Leave a Comment

Because of certain reason, I stayed in Oxnard, approximately 50 miles from L.A. This place is very neat and very well facilitated. Big family suit at USD150, which can accomodate 4-6 persons. There are 2 heated swimming pools and 3 heated outdoor spas. Self tanning light inside bathroom. Complimentary breakfast. The Ambrose is a recently opened, independent, boutique style hotel. I doubt you will find a better hotel for your money in Santa Monica - the main reason being it's located a short car drive from the expensive sea-front (but therefore the tramps as well). The distance wasn't a problem for us, and if you don't have a car (or want to pay the $9 in a taxi), then you can always use their London taxi cab that will take you anywhere within Santa Monica... FOR FREE ! Basically ideal for anyone who wants luxury accommodation, but can't afford the likes of Shutters on The Beach or The Casa del Mar. Beautiful rooms, corridors and an outdoor waterfall / Koi pond all touch on an Asian inspired theme. For once, a hotel whose website pictures actually look like the reality.
Other perks are the underground parking with elevator access, free Starbucks breakfast, decent fitness room (for a hotel), and mega friendly, helpful staff. Rooms are plush with widescreen TV's and CD / DVD systems. Unfortunately, the few gripes we had about this place mean we'd probably stay somewhere else next time. No bar - you have to get booze from an over-priced and under stocked mini-bar (or like us from the local supermarket, then put it in the mini-bar) Can't change travellers cheques - so you have to hunt a bank down that will (one that doesn't charge outrageous commission) No pool - even though for some reason we both assumed from the old website that it did Also, book your own taxi through Yellow Cabs ((tel: (310) 456 5303 or (877) 733 3305 or (888) 793 5569) - the firm The Ambrose are in partnership with charge about 50% more for the same journey. | | | | Furama Hotel: close and reasonable to sites and airport
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
-sevice is friendly -nice enough pool -internet service -a simple continental breakfast is included -there is a bar, qutie a nice and big bar at that in the hotel but seperate enough so you will not hear it at night -rooms are basic but clean -free shuttle bus to and from the airport - 5 mins from LAX - reasonable, room rates around $40 - if u are a backpacker ask the airlines in LAX for hotel discount vouchers
i only actually stayed here once but i lived beside it for a year, i used to use their shuttle bus every day to get me to and from work, the staff are friendly, it is very close to the airport and im my eyes quite a central hotel. It is quite basic but if it is only a bed u are after then its perfect, after all your not in LA to stay indoors. The hotel runs a free shutle bus to venice beach, santa monica daily, venice beach is only around 15 mins away from the hotel while santa monica about 20. On the other side manhattan beach is around 20mins away, this is were there is alot of nightlife, great bars and a relaxing environment. Just opposite furama is an italian restaurant, kfc for those who want to budget, there is a pizza place 5 mins walk away as well as a couple of bars, a nice park across the way and above all it is very safe and clean Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 8601 Lincoln Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045Directions: come out of LAX turn right on to ventura blvd, then follow road to the left at the lights, left of in and out burger, on to lincoln blvd, drive straight for 5 mins past parkwest apartments. LA is a huge urban sprawl. It's very important that you carefully choose a place to stay if you plan on spending anytime here. A downtown Hotel puts you miles from anything in a post apocalyptic nether world. Lodgings 'minutes from LAX' put you in a non descript and unattractive area. In fact most of LA is nothing to write home about. Stay by the beach in Santa Monica or Venice, or if you're a rock and roller or Hollywood Freak, you can stay on the Sunset strip. Well either that or you can stay in some crappy motel and spend the rest of the day outside the place and only go back to your motel to sleep. See my Santa Monica, Venice and Marina Del Rey pages for tips about where to stay. Theme: Other
