Hotel transfers with as infant

by Joslinimy

I am travelling from Australia through LAX on my way to Denver in a couple of weeks with my 8 month old baby. We are staying one night in LAX as our flight to Denver is the next day. Our hotel offers a free shuttle to and from the hotel but I have no idea what the laws are in LA regarding travel with a baby in a shuttle bus. We would be taking our Australian baby car seat with us to use in Denver but have no idea if there is an anchor point in the shuttle bus. If someone has done this or has any knowledge on how to do this that would be great.

Shuttle buses are exempt from the law, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. If you are staying close to the airport then I might take a chance. Several hotels are less than a mile and the shuttle bus never get over 15 mph. If you are concerned then take a taxi and use the car seat.

You can take the seat with you, but as the last reply, the shuttle buses and passenger taxis are exempt. It is a short way to the hotels and I would not worry. Some shuttle buses do have seat belts though, an they might be for handicap people also.

Surpriningly US School buses also don't have seat belts. Most public tranportation is exempt from the normal seat belting/child seat requiremnts. As others have said, most of the Airport area hotel that offer a shuttle service are no more than a few minutes from the airport plus they pretty much stay on the various airport access roads and never have to go on a highway. I'd feel okay holding the infant assuming your hotel is in the immediate vicinity. If the babay is in one of those seat that converts to a carrier as well, he/she should be fairly secure in that even if not connected to something.

Travel Tips for Los Angeles

Airport Transportation

by Skywalker84

When you arrive at LAX airport, and your travelling alone, it's the cheapest way to take a shuttle to all parts of Los Angeles. A shuttle ride from LAX costs 20$ incl. Tip!

With 2 people, you can take a taxi for the same price. The taxi's often have flat rate for the ride from LAX to the city (appr. 35$)

Rent a car. If you want to see...

by jjpoprac

Rent a car. If you want to see the city, don't rely on public transportation. Trains/subways are limited, and the buses are stuck on the busy streets. Rent a car, use the carpool lane. The weather. You just can't beat the weather on the west side of LA. Year round it's balmy.

Celeb sighting...

by joits

You might get lucky and spot a celeb. I've been lucky on a few occasions, but naturally I didn't have a camera on me. So on a sunny day whilst attending the annual Lotus fair, I spotted an actress, Lisa Edelstein. Who... I bet you are asking. Okay, okay, she's not a big time movie star... however she has been in many movies in supporting roles and several tv shows. But my point is, is that a ton of celebs live in LA... have ur camera ready at all times.

Have a Grand Time (Grand Avenue & Festival)!

by marinarena

Entertaining streets downtown!

Grand Avenue is one of many good streets downtown for going and out. The best way to sample what it has to offer is to arrive here for the Grand Avenue festival in the fall. The next one is scheduled to be in October. Last year was the second time for the official festivities and my first time there. On one day, one can get to see free highly caliber performances along the street and off Grand at the Music Center and other venues, as well as sample foods from various delectable downtown establishments that set up stalls.

Grand Ave Festival ...
is very family friendly
pet-friendly
very accessible with Metro (Pershing Square stop, 7th/Fig and Civic Center stop all relatively close by (5-15 min walking distance). Driving and parking can be a little problematic.

Driving and the horn

by bhemak

If you have driven to Los Angeles or you rent a car, take note that no one honks their horn. There is one exception to this; if a car in front of you is not moving when they should be (i.e. green light, stop and go traffic, etc.). If you are cut off, about to be hit, or disapprove of someones driving you shouldn't honk the horn to fit in with Angelenos.
