the place is cheap, the room and clean and safe. This very well located, the breakfast is very good, excellent service cost. Hot water 24 hs. today there are TV. Free wi-fi is available but only on the mezzanine floor. There is a cafe attached to the entrance for coffee and bagels but you'll have to travel into town to find anywhere with a decent sized meal.
Unique Quality: People working in the hotel is very nice, care and human factor issues in the hotel compensate, The hotel has a wonderfully impressive front, but as you delve deeper into the hotel the upkeep is apparently lacking. I enjoyed the character of the 1920's style rooms.

Don't let there be any misunderstandings: I'm an avid taveller and I'm coming to L.A., California for one week in the second half of may.
This time I'm only interested in stepping in the footsteps of the best American detective writer ever: Raymond Chandler.
Is there anyone out there who can focus me on some to do places ?
Most of all, I'm looking for the cheapest place (single) in Downtown L.A. to stay. I'm a backpacker and just need a cheap bed to get some hours of sleep before I go out walking again the next morning.
So: any cheap addresse?

hostels.com has some cheap beds but I don't know if its the cheapest of all.
The cheapest would probably some crackheads joint but I don't know if you would get any sleep. lol
Avoid the low price at The Hotel Cecil; check out "Furama" hotel, instead. If you want really cheap, consider a hostel in Hollywood. There's a USA Hostel on Schrader that is quite popular and festive, and near the subway to Downtown.
Will you be in LA on May 12? That's when Esotouric debuts their Raymond Chandler bus tour. It's $55, but maybe that is not too much with your good exchange rate? More info is at http://www.esotouric.com
Also, be sure to go to Musso and Frank in Hollywood, a great old bar/restaurant near Raymond Chandler Sq at Hollywood and Cahuenga.
