Red Sky at Night: Sailor's Delight
by Scouski
My favourite thing about Los Angeles apart from my brother and his family living there, is without doubt the sunrises, sunsets, and horizons. I love to be on the move, and as a part of that feeling of freedom comes the love of stunning sky lines at dusk, driving along on those big open roads, (i'm sure they don't call them freeways for nothing), camera in hand and some Pacific Coast Highway tracks playing on the radio. Coming from England you can appreciate the contentment one feels as the Californian sunshine beams through the car window like a tiger's eye, and gently warms the right side of my face as i sit in the passenger seat humming to the sounds from the radio. True there may not be historical buildings and ghostly stories in California, as in most of the United States, but you can equally be mesmorised by the supernatural light that glows late in the day here - City of Angels? you can be sure if angels do exist, their halo's are burning high in the sky at night in LA. I have great memories of LA, but for me the one best memory was that for the first time in a few years the whole family spent New Years together, having never met my brother's wife and children, or seem him myself for about 2 1/2 years it was more about spending time with the people that really matter, than about the place we were visiting.

This is definately a city that deserves few days of your time. There is so much to do and never enough time. If you have someone that lives there, get them to take you on a car tour of the city and see the sites. Was the Warner Brothers tour. Even though our guide wasn't the greatest, we had a lot of fun. You get to see the Museum where several costumes from the movies are held. You get a peek at the Friends set & the ER set. And you get to see such famous cars as The 'General Lee' from Dukes of Hazardand and the Batmobile. One stop is at what we called 'Anytown USA' which has been used in filming in Bonnie and Clyde, Seinfeld, Drew Carey, Friends, and many more. We almost didn't get to see any stars though but towards the end, we glimpsed Martin Sheen driving by after some West Wing taping.
Unforgettable Game at Rose Bowl
by SLLiew
One of my most unforgettable sporting moment in LA was going to the final of FIFA World CUp 1994 at the Rose Bowl.
It was Brazil vs Italy and ended with a scoreless draw.
The World Cup went to Brazil when Italian player Baggio missed the penalty kick.
The conversion of Rose Bowl into a football venue is one of the great Hollywood style magic. Nearby golf holes and school were turned into parking places including for stretched out limousines and helicopters on that day.
Rose Bowl was also used as one of the stadium venues for 1932 and 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games. Also as venue for past Superbowls and the famous annual Collegiate Rose Bowl football game.
Completed in 1922, Rose Bowl design was influenced by the earlier Yale Bowl.
Rush Back to Hotel
by vigi
After browsing through the Hollywood Bldv., we need to rush back to Oxnard, to check in our arranged hotel there. Since we don;t know the way, we wanted to get there before sunset, checked in, take a shower, relaxed a bit, then head over to VT-Meeting in Santa Monica! But our plan failed. We took almost 2 hours from LA downtown to the hotel, as we lost our way in the highway with some wrong turns. Plus they blocked the exit nearest to the hotel, and we had to make our "tried and error" drive...
Mix of cultures

There is a big hispanic community in Los Angeles, composed mostly by mexicans. Some neighbourhoods reflect this by having publicity in spanish, a lot of mexican restaurants and other stores related to Mexico.
There is also a Chinesse neighbourhood and a Japannesse one.
Also spanish is widely spoken and if you speak it and don't speak english you will be able to get by in this city.
