Downtown LA

Look up and you will see some of the tallest buildings in California. The buildings are very nice to look at but I know I would not want to work in them with as much as the earth moves here.
This view is from the 110 freeway. It was not hard to take it as the traffic does not move more than 5 mph on this road which is not unlike many of the other freeways in Southern California.
But it sure does look pretty. Leaving.

Los Angeles Tip

When my fiance and I were on the blue line, I saw an incident that made me so proud. Two young boys were sitting. The section we were in was crowded so no seats available. A woman got on with her child and grabbed a handrail. One of the boys offered his seat to this woman and she thanked him. His brother also moved. The young boys mother was sitting with them. These boys were well behaved and showed class! What was so nice about this incident is the boys and their mother were Black, the woman who entered train was Hispanic. You see many Hispanic and Black
people in LA and it touched me how people no matter color of skin or race can show respect
to others.

Good food court/markets!
Grand Central Market is a neighborhood treasure. Downtowners appreciate it for providing a variety of fruits, veggies, meats, exotic spices and more which would all be otherwise hard to get. For workers and others who happen to be downtown, this is the place to go for a filling meal without emptying the pocket. Various deli-style sandwiches are served and gobbled up. There is a good selection of cuisines- but, of course Mexican and other latino foods are most popular, given the heavily-populated Hispanic community living around and frequenting here. My special tip- try Sarita's Pupuseria for Salvoradean craving feeding hungry mouths.
Food vendors are scattered upstairs (street level). There is a discount store underground. Basically, it is good for a quick drink, snack, a cheap toy , crayons, greeting card, an item for school/work and various other "knick-knacks"that make their way on the shelves. I actually found a fashionable pair of sparkling pink shoes for just $3. They would have been easily $20 at the mall. Oh the thrill of walking up to a fabulous deal!!!
Grand Central Market is between 3th St and 5th St, between Hill and Broadway. OK, not the fondest but I do miss my Sarita's pupusas and paying just 33 cents for a head of lettuce here instead on 80 cents+ in the suburbs!!!

Certain things you wear will surely make you stand out as a tourist. These would include tight spandex swim shorts for men (Speedo's), multiple cameras strapped around your neck, tight shorts on men, and Hard Rock Cafe T-shirts.
