TRAVELERS BEWARE: It's a "tourist trap!"

My advice: Avoid this place like the plague! It should be named, "The Pre-historic Mayfair Hotel."
I was very disappointed and felt cheated/swindled. The only nice thing about the hotel was the lobby; it is very spacious, with high ceilings. But, the service and the rooms are really atrocious. The workers are apathetic. The rooms vary tremendously in size and quality. You might get a clean, neat, and sparsely furnished/decorated room, or one that is very dingy, shoddy and dismal looking. You will most certainly share your room with bedbugs and cockroaches! The bathrooms are very, very tiny; my closets at home are larger.
The area is close to downtown L.A., but it is a very SCARY and DANGEROUS neighborhood. There are many criminal types and homeless folks lurking about that hotel; so, be extra careful and vigilant—especially after dark!

GREAT DOWNTOWN ACCOMODATION
WE STAYED AT THIS HOTEL IN 2004 WITH A GROUP TRAVELLING TOGETHER FROM AUSTRALIA. WE WERE TRAVELLING WITH A BASEBALL TEAM AND A FEW FAMILIES AS WELL. THE AGES OF THE TEAM MEMBERS WERE BETWEEN 15 AND 18. WE FOUND THIS HOTEL VERY ACCOMODATING AS WE WERE MAINLY THERE TO SLEEP ONLY. THE ROOMS WERE BIG ENOUGH AND THE BATHROOMS CLEAN. THE STAFF WERE VERY OBLIGING AS WELL. THE FOYER OF THIS HOTEL IS VERY BEAUTIFUL.
We arrived in LA by plane and by night, this show us how this town is big ! We staid at the Mayfair Hotel (best western) in the Downtown LA (7th street), a very nice & beautifull hotel where everybody is sympatic. But you need to be carefull after 7 PM in this part of the town, we didn't have problems but everybody told us to be carefull ! The best things we saw were : Venice Beach, Hollywood (chinese Theatre), Mulholand Drive (great view of LA) and the Queen Mary (Long Beach), Universal Studio. We moved easily in this big town by using bus, metro and taxi.

LA FURNISHED APTS.
by nahhtahhshaa
Planning a road trip with my friend from Vancouver BC to California! Mainly around the LA, OC area!!!! staying for a month!!! Since im staying for so long I was looking up furnished short term rentals ..and came around LA furnished apartments site! seems goood..comes equipped with everything, with different locations around LA... just wondering on any feedback of them? I figure staying in different hotels would be far more expensive. 100.00 a day for a decent room! that doesnt come with a kitchen..it cost around 3grand for the month..
LA furnished apartments is 2690.00 for the month which includes everything an apartment place would have!!! i think thats the best idea..
any advice?

We've rented apartments in 4 cities now and enjoyed them very much. There are things a renter needs to be cautious of, though.
What website are you using? The google I did for LA Furnished Apartments doesn't bring up anything by that name, and one website that will not connect.

You want to be really careful with rental sites. Like myself and the previous poster mentioned, we'd use VRBO or Homeaway.com. They are well-known holiday rental sites and while it's possible to get ripped off, it's not as possible as, say, craigslist.
I've used both sites BUT only rented properties with lots of photos and reviews. I wouldn't rent a property with zero reviews or no photos. Read the reviews carefully to make sure they don't sound like they were written by the same person.
Never, never send cash and never, never send the full rental fee, if requested. The downpayment should be by credit card or Paypal (I prefer credit card) with the full amount to be paid just before or at the end of your stay. Also make sure to read the fine print carefully for extra taxes and cleaning fees.
And the more the owners tell you about themselves on their rental pages, the better. Some of them even have external websites.

The Historic Mayfair Hotel in Los Angeles Downtown has a long term stay normally for students from overseas. The hotel room with micro wave and refrigerator renting at about $850.00 per month. If you just want to move around in Los Angeles, I think it is a great price with weekly cleaning service in a nice old historic hotel just right at the Freeway.
Check it out.
