Tourist house rental(with great view)

by johntra

Hi,
Two of us want to spend one or two months in L.A. and want to rent a house. We are looking for a house in a hills with view on L.A. So can anyone give us a suggestions on neighborhood and agency choice for us. We have already found some offers online, but prices are too high. Our budget is 5-6000USD a month for a short term lease. I can't believe that there is no short-term house rental(overlooking L.A.) for that amount. Maybe we just don't know how to find it...

Please help.

Try VRBO.com or Homeaway.com

I'm guessing the type of view you want is just going to be expensive.

Here's one:

http://www.vrbo.com/22584.

It's only one bedroom plus convertible bed but can't beat the view

5 to 6 G's per month in this market is ALOT. By this i mean you should be able EASILY to get VERY nice place. I assume you are looking for a 2 bedroom house ? Please state exact requirements. Will try to hook you up.

We are looking for a few months now and seems to me that 5000 is nothing if you want city view... We also cant believe it. L.A. is too expensive

It doesn't have to bee twoo bedroom house. We just want nice view over L.A. from a nice neighborhood... Also, pool would be nice. We thing that agents are taking too much money for themselves, that's why the prices are that high

If you looked at the prices on Homeaway or VRBO, you'll see that prices can be very high indeed. City taxes are expensive. If you want a pool, you may want to look at condo or apartment rentals as they often have those types of amenities. I'm not saying what you want is impossible, you will just have to do some looking.

Those two websites have a lot to offer - start looking.

Travel Tips for Los Angeles

The Hollywood Bowl

by Agraichen

In the heart of Greater LA (ok, actually Hollywood), the Hollywood Bowl has been an icon of the concert world. Created in 1922, the Los Angeles Philharmoic has serenaded crowds annually.

The "shell" was added in 1929 but had terrible acoustics and was quite small; thus almost 1/3 of the orchestra sat outside the shell.

The Bowl is easliy accessable by car or city bus and is located only a short walk from the famed Hollywood walk of the stars.

Located just off of Hwy 101 (Highland Exit) at 2301 N. Highland Ave, Hollywood. The phone number is (323) 850-2000 and web site for tickets www.hollywoodbowl.com

See the opulent mansions and the incredible palm trees in Beverly Hills. Driving along the Pacific Coast Highway from Malibu to Santa Monica and then walking along the beach by the Santa Monica Pier.

see the ocean! The beach was probably my favourite part of LA - I ended up staying in Venice, and walked down to Santa Monica. Santa Monica is a pretty pleasant place, and some nice shopping. There's a Hostelling International affiliated hostel here which would be a good place to stay - but you'll need to book ahead - it was full when I went! Details on the official HI webpage here.

Don't get gas downtown...

by marinarena

unless you have to! I could write the same for Malibu when I get the Malbu pages going on here- but back to downtown LA. Gas prices are really elevated here. A common guideline is that the richer the community, the higher the gas prices. Often this is the case, like with the example of Malibu. However, the guidleine is not the rule. Downtown LA is not necessarily rich. Despite having the fancy posh lofts and highrises and the wealth of business, the area is also the poorest of the poor with Skid Row and several downtrodden streets. Well, after some thought, the reason why gas is high in downtown may just be because pump stations are somewhat scarce. A particular station by the entrance of Chinatown (The name escapes me) and near Union Station is quite staggering considering pump price, often 20 cents higher than the normal at a given time. Yikes!

West Hollywood: Halloween Parade

by Escadora7

October 31st is Halloween. Unless you are invited to some super-spectacular private party, the Gay Halloween Parade in West Hollywood is the best place to be. It all happens on Santa Monica Blvd. (yes, it's pedestrians only) between La Cienega and Doheny from 6pm to midnight or later: Music, food- and drink stalls, live bands, costume contests, and all sorts of crazy people to watch.

Note of caution: PARKING is a nightmare! You'll probably have to walk quite a bit before you reach Santa Monica Blvd.; even if you take a bus or taxi - you are better off walking since traffic around the area comes to a complete standstill.
