Please recommend a cabin near a beautiful lake

by LynnLine

My husband, my daughter and her friend (and possibly our dog) will be traveling to Mammoth Lakes in a couple of weeks. Can anyone recommend a nice cabin that is on one of the beautiful lakes in the area?

There are several lakes in Mammoth, Lake Mary, lake George and Twin Lakes. I don't know of any rentals right on the lake though. There are campgrounds. You may want to try visitmammoth.com. You will find many condo's on Lake Mary Road, from there it is a short drive to Lake Mary. Good luck, Karl

by brydarn

you must visit the local hot spings of the area..

stop at any gas station and ask the attendant what his or her favorite hotspring of the area is and go there!,,,

you wont be disapointed ..
one word of caution.. most locals go clothing optional.,, so no staring. :) we actully camped at a campground near devels postpile.. this is a really neat thing to see. Its a natural formation of rock in tha shape of octagon type cylinders protruding out of the ground.

Eagle Express

This lift leads to a number of various skill leveled trails. I stayed on the beginner levels, and it was still much more difficult than the hill at Chair 7, as my butt will attest to, as it was extremely sore after all the falling I did.

In teh morning the slopes were very icy, but later in the day the snow soften up a bit and I had moe control. board, boots,a nd warm clothes.

Buy lift tickets at little Eagle: $25 for Beginners all day.

This is where your food comes from!

There are fish hatcheries where fish are harvested. The one that we saw was for trout and there were thousands of them! You can even buy fish pellets and feed them. Some of them get aggressive and others jump over their little fences to get to the next trough. Also, don't forget to say hello to the cows on your way to the hatcheries and hot springs! :)

Schat's Bakery

by bruingirl about Schat's Bakery

Owned and opened by Erick Schat, there is another one in the city of Bishop, just 40 minutes south of Mammoth! They bake the most amazing croissants, breads, rolls, etc...! The minute you walk into the bakery, you will be inundated with the heavenly smell of freshly baked goods!! They also have a restaurant where you can sit down and enjoy anything from a 'The Mammoth' omelette to a chorizo and eggs!

June Lake

by chewy3326

June Lake is probably the second prettiest lake on the June Lakes Loop. It is quite large. If you approach the lake from the southeast, you'll first come upon Oh! Ridge, where you should make a turnoff and head to a viewpoint with a somewhat obscured view of the lake. Some trees block a good half of the view, but you can still see some of June Lake, with the giant Carson Peak behind it. At the western end of the lake there is the June Lake village, which is a commercialized and ugly little place. Nearby is June Mountain Ski Resort, where you can ski in winter; passes at Mammoth Mountain are also applicable here.
