Travel Tips for Mammoth Lakes

While staying at Mammoth we...

by BrendaLehr

While staying at Mammoth we drove down to Bishop for golf. I do not know how to golf either. I was in charge of driving around the beer cart, for all of our organization directors from the conference I was attending. Hey golf carts are fun!

Cross-country skiing in Mammoth Lakes basin

by gordonye

Cross-country skiing in winter can be a wonderful activity with great views to the snow-capped mountains nearby. The ski lodge is located at Tamarack Lodge, off Lake Mary road a few miles southwest of town.

The Yodler

by giampiero6

The Yodler is a popular place for Apres-ski. It's right at the base of the main lodge across the parking lot. I would say that Apres Ski is the main lack at Mammoth and the Yodler presents what little apres ski there is. It starts rocking when the lifts close and the place gets pretty packed on weekends. have some drinks, lie about how great a skier you are and... If you're really nice they might let you try to blow the Alpen Horn!

Large mugs of beer improved our Alpen Horn playing immensely! Is beer a dish?

Yosemite national Park

by Carmela71

We used Mammoth lake to stop the night before driving through Yosemite Park in direction to San Francisco. I know one day is not enough but you can minimum visit some of the most important places of the park.

Next time I will stay longer at the national parks by sure.

Smokey Bear Flat

by chewy3326

Some of the best Mammoth-area views from US-395 are at Smokey Bear Flat, a small desert flat surrounded by forest with the towering Sierra crest to the south and west. The scenery at the flat is amazing. In winter, this area is occasionally used for snowboarding. The flat is named for Smokey Bear- a USDA US Forest Service mascot caught in Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico who for many years championed suppressing forest fires. That program is still around today, but there is much stronger opposition. While forest fires were originally thought of as destructive, its now known that natural forest fires help keep a forest healthy and clear underbrush.
