On the front porch 1965 around XmasFort Ord's Backyard
Between 1964 and 1966, we lived in Marina, just north of Fort Ord while my husband went to the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. Our house was apparently built on a sand dune, and any areas that were not planted with lawn and extensively watered every day looked like this. Our landlady had a small patch of lawn in the front and ice plant around the edges. But here in the back yard it was just sand. My girls loved to play in the sand, and we also had a swing set back here which you can see in back of my daughter. They could also go up and look at the sheep on the farm in back of us.
