Enjoy the scenery of the Redwoods to the East and the Pacific Ocean to the West. A strolling tour of the town will take you to artist's workshops, galleries and excellent restaurants. Pack a picnic lunch (San Francisco sourdough bread, hard salami, cheese and wine) to feast on while overlooking the pounding surf below the cliffs. We first visited Mendicino on our Honeymoon as part of a weeklong trip around Northern California. We fell in love with the area, returning several years in a row. Time and money got in the way for a while, but we returned in June of 2000 for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. It was a treat to find it had stayed quite the same. Please enjoy my travelogues on the town of Mendicino, the Little River area, The Heritage House and the Albion area (all close to Mendicino). (Little River, Heritage House and Albion are under construction.) Live, Love and Remember ...
4th of July
by richiecdisc
The 4th of July is one of the biggest holidays in the US. It's kind a combination of national pride, the beginning of summer, and the kids are out of school-let's get out and do something. Family get togethers are common, whether they be BBQs at home or excursions. Camping is particularly popular as you can bring the whole family with you inexpensively and visiting a National Park brings the pride factor into play as well. For that reason, either make reservations or pick a place not quite as popular. Don't drive up to Yosemite on the 4th of July and expect to get a spot as a walk-in! Traffic can be bad as well and many people leave a day early and go home a day later to avoid it. We actually left Sequoia National Park on the 4th and headed towards San Francisco which worked well for us. Most people were already where they wanted to be and it was not in town.
Mendocino
by Agraichen
The Mendocino coastline is one of CA's best. Breaking waves, high cliffs, incredible scenery all make for a great experience.
The "little" town of Mendocino, comprised of many artist locations (all kinds not just the painting type) is probably best known for the TV show "Murder She Wrote" which was "based" in Mendocino (but probably shot in a studio elsewhere).
This artist colony is a must see. I need to get back and spend more than a long weekend.
Mendocino... worth the drive
by islandtaryn
A little remote...but that is what gives it it's distinctive flavor. The drive on the Pacific Coast Highway (in either direction) is an experience in and of itself.Lots of wide open space, lots of trees, lot of flowers. And the best of all...only a smattering of people!
Mendicino, California - Where the Redwoods meet th
by johnflyfl
Mendicino is a beautiful coastal town located about 185 miles north of San Francisco. The distance is deceiving, because it can take 5 hours to meander up the Coast - but what a spectacular drive. The town of Mendicino is a peninsula with the Pacific Ocean surrounding three sides and giant Redwood forests to the East.
Long known for its local artists and excellent restaurants, above all Mendicino is an area that rejuvenates ones connection with the power of nature, inspires the spirit and rekindles the romance. It has become for many, a spot to visit the "Same Time, Next Year".
